  • Rear Bike Rack

Just wondering if anyone has experience with attaching a bike rack and if so what your experiences are? Do you have any recommendations for brands and what price would I be looking at?

Have a family of four and would like to take our bikes when we want a ride.

ok I'll bite what's so special about the 150 series that means these previous threads aren't relevant?

To the OP it depends on what bikes you are carrying and where you will be driving. Mine is a carrier by GRIPSPORT and it's designed for DH and AM bikes so supports from the crank while letting the bikes sit on their tyres. There are various types offered by GRIP depending on what you need but they aren't cheap however they are very well made.

Ok thanks - it was silly of me but I should have posted this in the 120. I assume that they are similar in any event. Thanks for the help.

                Bike rack for 150 Series

Can anyone recommend a good tow ball mounted bike rack that fits on the 150's?

It needs to obviously clear the spare wheel and ideally has some form of quick release so that I can access the boot.

I'm a but reluctant to put the bikes on the roof as I don't have side steps (for now) and it would be hard to reach.

I often carry 2-3bikes so putting them inside the car isn't an option either.

                Cheers

                Yak.

                    If you're after a super-off-road one take a look at http://www.isi-carriers.com/
Otherwise Thule (and others) make a "swing away" one like this. They pivot so that you can open the back door easily.
Be aware that if you're thinking of using a rack which "folds" down so that you can access the back door - it would have to go down a long long way and with a few bikes on board they can be come quite heavy to lift up/down without damaging anything.

I have got a jetblack carrier, which is easy to use and holds the bikes nicely and stable.
                      http://jetblackcycling.com/categorie...nalCat/jetrack

When I use it I put on the hitch for the caravan to clear the spare tyre, its a bit longer as its a weight distribution hitch.

I also have a pacific 4 bike rack with the boomerang base to get past the spare wheel. I can use that with the normal hitch.

                      http://www.pushys.com.au/pacific-2-b...FYkqpAodZ38ARQ

I prefer using the jet black one as it doesn`t need to top tether rope, its nice and stable just by tightening it onto the towball.

Suggest you go to a local bike shop and try a couple.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

                        Yak

I was looking for a solution also for my 120, that could swing away for access to the back and carry 4 bikes. The pacific one I saw in a Perth bike shop wanted over $300, but found the same on eBay from this seller for $195 delivered

                        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PACIFIC-S...fee760f&_uhb=1

I just have a standard OEM toyota tow ball, just unbolted and removed the ball and tongue then slid in the bike rack into the square slot and secure with the bolt already had. Not sure would be the same setup for your 150, but an option to look at

                        Cheers

How do you find this one, I am looking for a way to carry a couple of bikes.
Does it move around much and how good are the tie down straps for the bike frames
                          Any issues?

                            Kim,
Did you need a hitch extender to clear the spare tyre?

No extension required - even with AMTS tyre spacer if have, just took a photo

With no bikes on does move a bit up and down, but with the bikes on no movement, straps are fine, usually put a couple of those blue "grunt" straps from bunnings through the wheels to stop spinning while driving
