They look pretty good, but a little too small.... I'd like something that utilises more the available roof area.

I spent a fair bit of time tossing up on a number of options and have ordered Black Widow and pick up 6 Jan. A bit more expensive than others but
          1. I wanted alloy rather than steel (I live near the sea and previous steel rack on old LC80 was very heavy and rusted badly)
          2. BW has Fred's Arm for awning (looks like a good option to cover rear door while camping rather than Foxwing and equivalents)
          3. Wanted full length to carry OzTent and BW has 2200 long that fits 150 series
          4. BW seems to be best build quality from what I have seen in showrooms and 4WD shows
          5. BW gave me a good deal with drawers and roof rack purchase
Ultimate test will be on the tracks with a full load of camping gear...

We picked up a Whisbar set today and am impressed so far. Yes from Ebay $275 PU.
But here's the thing. The website :http://www.whispbar.com.au/findmycar indicates the right bars for a 2011 VX is an S45 bar. Wrong.
I insisted on fitting the bars at the Greenacre factory, See Ebay, Item no 110428706197 And strongly recommend anyone, whatever model you are buying do the same. Climb up and look at how well the bars fit, use commonsense at the buy point.

The S45 fitted the rearbar only. The forward bar is different, its wider! The S45 housings grabbed only 12mm of bar each side!
Im very pleased to say the Ebay seller was very helpful and fitted a wider forward bar from a different set, no extra cost.
He is very professional and fitted a set keyed alike. Recommend him but try on site.
I am also impressed how well the rhino pod fits, its actually better than on the rhino racks from our previous vehicle.
            The Whisbar feels right.
WE don't want to raise our C/Gravity too much, its just for lighter things like bedding and bulky clothes.
The pod is light and weather proof.
            Viva the Prado!

Is it a one man job to install / remove or 2?

Is it the type where u can just remove the basket and leave the bars or do u have to remove the whole thing?

                Guys.....

Just been down to the local TJM store, enquiring about roofracks for the Prado. The salesman after speaking with Rhino Systems suggested getting Toyota to remove the original roofbars & install the necessary waterproofing membrane to prevent leaking. Then I can simply buy the Rhino H/D Bars & Feet. This way went the bars are not in use, I can simply remove the bars leaving the base to what the feet screw to.(similar to the 100's system). This system will hopefully give me greater flexibility buy just using the bars when req''d or the bars and full length rack that I've got stored in the shed..... The reason the salesman suggested getting Toyota to remove them is that they have to install the waterproof membrane/washers to make it water proof. If I did it myself, I wouldn't have that membrane and I don't think anything comes with the Rhino kit to prevent the roof from leaking..... Has anyone had experience in this or knows whether this is true or not?

                  That's interesting Rob.

I will be doing something similar when my 150 arrives.

My experience with this on the 120 was that I used SikaFlex around the bolt replacements to prevent water ingress through the bolt-holes. For extra precaution, I used plumbers tape on the bolt threads.

Though what's all this about a membrane? On the 120, they just used rubber washers on the bolts to form the waterproof seal.

                  LFaR.

I don't know but will ask about it tomorrow when the Prado goes in for it's 30k service... Might even ask them to remove the rails too if they have time during the allotted time given for the service.
If it's similar to the 100's install, then I think I'll be doing something similar to what u mentioned & what I did with the 100's

                      Rob,

I took my roof rails of myself. With the 120 model they had the covers that replaced the legs that went into the roof rail. For the 150 model they dont.

They suggested to silicone the holes. I silicone around the holes then put the bolts back in the roof and put more silicone around them. I made sure I can take the bolts out when im ready to put roof racks on.

I took my rails off and did just as you want to end up with Rob. Bought my Rhino kit straight from Rhino's showroom and no one ever mentioned a waterproof membrane? Anyway the RCP feet comes with the fittings which also has the foam washers for sealing etc.

I have had no issues or seen any leaking and considering the amount of rain we have had as late think it is all good. The setup is very versatile since only six screws come off to remove the 3 heavy duty bars and you have caps that go on the RCP feet.

My only problem is my tray I kept from the 120 is 1500 long and too short for the 3 rails so I need a longer one.

Anyone interested in buying a 1510 Rhino tray! :-)

We have one of those repco rola racks also.. I take it off when not in use as the wife complains about shopping centres, however only takes a few minutes to install, I think it's great however I was thinking of putting a metal mesh on the base ?

Yep... Ended up just buying the Leg kit and re-used the HD bars that I had leftover from the 100's. Kinda think the extra llength suits to. the100's ones are 1375mm vs the 150's which I think are about 1270 or so.... It doesn't look out of place at all. Now all I''ve got to do is modify the old roofrack that I've got stored in the shed so I can just bolt it to the HD rack and all is good.

Learnt something with the Rhino HD install...... Should have inquired if I could have just bought the feet sections that bolt to the roof instead of the full kit as the legs that came with the kits are exactly the same legs as I had with the 100's kit. Could have saved a bit of money..... will know for next time.

I was also looking at the Rhino Mesh Basket (1810x1200 I think), if re-using my old roofrack doesn't work, I'll go with the basket but the basket weights 22kg, while my old rack only weighs 13kgs.

On a side note: What's people's thoughts on Roof-top Storage Bags? What Size? What Brand/model, etc?

                                Thoughts.... comments?
(should I make another topic for this one?)

                                cheers....
