Thanks Matt. We've used chains before, just not on this Prado. I'll give the BP in Mansfield a call and see what they say.

Snow chains for 150 Prado

Called the BP in Mansfield and they do have them for 18" 4WD tyres but couldn't tell me the hire price for this year, hasn't been set yet. They did say you need to be able to put your hand all the way around the back of the tyre without you knuckles hitting anything but that the Prado should be OK.
Has anyone used the Piranha Diamond Pattern Chains in recent years? We had a set of Piranha chains for the 80 series and they were very good quality.

Way more expensive than the Aldi ones but I'm betting they will last a lot longer too.

Forgot to post back here but I ended up buying the Aldi chains for a few reasons. Firstly they are cheap, secondly they are light compared to a Pirahna/Konig style chain, thirdly they are much easier to put on than the drive on types (Aldi ones have the hoop that goes over the back of the wheel). I realise they won't be as strong but for the odd chance I may need them they will do the job OK and they satisfy the requirement to carry chains during the ski season. If they bust after the 1st use so be it, still cheaper than hiring a set. In fact I went back today and bought another set for a friend, still a few sets left at the store I visited.
