  • Has anyone plumbed there on-board air compressor to the rear?

Now I've finished installing my arb compressor in the engine bay, I'm considering running an airline to the rear of the prado.

Who has done this? Where can I find air hose and fittings? Apparently the arb compressors run a propriety connection?

Any feedback or gotchas would be appreciated.

Unfortunately that's extent of my knowledge on the subject. You could send him a PM but I don't know how active he is on the Forum these days.

I have, but not an ARB.

Chop off the ARB fitting and switch to nitto like the rest of the world.

You can get line and fittings at tool shops, super cheap, bolt shops.

You should be able to get a lot of the fittings from Super Cheap Auto or a similar store. They have most of the fittings. You could also have a look online at a product called EndlessAir. You would not be interested in their air compressor (as you already have one) but they have lots of parts and accessories available.

I am in the process of fitting the ARB double header compressor to my 120 and needed to fit a remote inlet and then plumb to a tank and quick release. I bought my fittings from Fittings Express up here at Brendale so have a google for "pneumatic fittings" and your location, for me this worked out about $50 cheaper than Blackwoods or Pirtek. You can find details of fittings easily on the web too.

Inlet side I have gone with brass fittings and the outlet stainless steel. Best to do a drawing or mud map of what you want and go talk to the sales people, be a bit generous on hose lengths because you may need to feed the hose in and around existing stuff to keep the set up neat. If you are lucky you might be able to get off cuts of hose and the cost will be minimal.

The ARB compressors have 1/4" NPT fittings but 1/4" BSP screws in fine (1 tpi difference isn't a problem with such short thread lengths) and use a liquid sealant rather than thread tape if you can. For the remote inlet I went 1/4" BSP to 1/2" tail and ran both with short 1/2" hoses to a 1/2" tee and from there 3/4" to an air filter off a Honda peewee 50. The 3/4" hose fits beautifully inside the air filter stem. Make sure you get reinforced hose if you are going to run a remote inlet so it doesn't collapse.

On the outlet side I will run from the outlet (again 1/4" NPT) to 10mm tube with push in fittings. These are easier to use and cheaper than olive fittings and you can easily change the location of bits and pieces. From there I will run to a non return valve and then to a tee. The top of the tee will go to a Nitto style QR outlet which will be on or under the front bar. If you only have ARB stuff then stick with that but I have two 12V compressors and a reasonably large 240V compressor and extra receivers with QR fittings and about 5 different hoses and fittings so I made all mine interchangeable with Nitto style fittings. The other side of the tee goes to an isolation valve and then on to the receiver tank. I have everything except the tank.

I am going to mount the compressor first and then decide whether to go for a relatively small tank (4L or so) mounted in the winch space or run a longer hose to a larger tank on the chassis. The ARB aluminium tank looks pretty good but for the same $ you can get a 9L or 15L aluminium tank from evilBay. It is interesting that ARB Melbourne will sell me their 4L tank for $105 + postage and in Brisbane the cheapest price offered by anyone is $155.

If you want any details of the bits I have send me a pm.

Nitto, who uses Nitto everyone uses Ryco dont they? I have changed my ARB fitting to a Ryco as that is what I use at home in the shed (as does most everyone else in th world). If you cant get fittings the same as the ARB then swap to something that you can get locally.

            Cheers Andrew
