  • Replacing wire rope with plasma - Winch installed on ARB Deluxe bar

    Hi Guys,

I'm hoping someone has done this before on the 150. I want to replace my old wire rope for plasma for my warn winch, is it possible to do this without removing the entire ARB deluxe bar ?

    cheers
    Rob

I have deluxe bar on 120. Simply remove the forward bash plate - this should give access to the winch drum. When you've removed the wire rope make sure that the plasma rope goes on the drum in the correct direction. You should get some instructions with the rope. Wind the rope on with some resistance to ensure that it winds on neatly and evenly and doesn't form a birds nest. You will obviously be changing the fairway rollers for an ally or plastic hawse?

Shouldn't need to drop the bash plates, it should just be a free spool off the wire and spool on the rope. As mentioned this needs to be done under tension as the rope will stretch a bit. Easier with 2 people, one in the rig steering to get the rope on evenly and one watching the rope wind on. Hook up your rope to a tree, it is a good work out for your winch. I have an ally hawse but if I did it again I would fit new rollers rather than a hawse. Hawse fairleads generate too much heat and heat is the enemy of rope.

Don't know why I said to remove bash plate when like D4D said you can access the drum from above. I have plastic hawse and have not experienced any excessive heat build up.

Bushbasher, I dont think the winch is as accessible from the top behind the bullbar on the 150 as the mighty 120 as the grill doesn't lift with the bonnet?

There is room to access the winch from the top on a 150 Arb bar, when I replaced my winch rope I just removed the rollers from the wire winch, fed a plastic guide through the rope, attached the rope to the barrel from the feed hole (or maybe underneath, can't remember), screwed in the plastic guide, and rolled in the new winch cable.easy as!

DON'T FORGET, the winch cable is actually attached to the barrel with a little grub screw, you will need to undo this to remove the cable. Your new plasma may possibly attach in the same place so don't loose the screw.
