Anyone using Hannibal roof-top tent with factory rails?

Hi all,
I am looking at putting a Hannibal rooftop tent on my Prado on trips, and still keep the factory rails.
Has anyone done this? From what I can see most of the Hannibal installations are on flat roof platforms, which require the two factory rails to be removed.

Good question, I guess no one has tried it.

Have you got your roof top tent yet and if so what do you think of it?

I have been looking at the Ironman model to run on a 150 as well.

I havent got the tent yet, just have been talking to Peter at Hannibal. I would prefer to keep the factory rails, but this is getting difficult without putting a dedicated platform on the roof, which means removal of factory rails.
Will keep looking and let you guys know what I end up with. Need to sort this out before my 2 week trip in July.

I've got a TJM tent mounted on Rhino Racks for a couple of quick trips I've got planned. But when we go to the Cape I will be pulling off the rails and installing a dedicated rack for the tent and some other light items.

Friend has a Hannibal on the roof of his Shortie Pajero and used it across the Simpson recently.

He has 2 x Rhino roof bars that connect to the factory rails and no issue with both he and partner sleeping in it.

Having no remaining roof space for anything else a platform and extra capacity etc isn't an issue as there isn't any

Powerful 4x4 also make a good quality rack but not sure whether it fits the Prado. Andy, I have the heavy duty Rhino racks with a Austrack brand rooftop tent which is the same as the TJM and ARB brand of tents. Coming out of the same factory in China. This system works well as it has proven itself on a number of hard earned trips. I don't use this set up all the time so that's why I didn't buy of Peter. Lord knows, I wanted too, he is such a nice guy, and that 100 series of his is a beauty.
I just couldn't justify the price difference for the use that I was going to give it.
Also, the trip in 2010, we coped a hiding with the rain out in the middle of Australia. Not one drop went through that tent, no leaks at all, at least with the Austrack brand.

I took my factory rails off and replaced them with a set of ARB 150 side rails (steel) that are made for their baskets. I believe they can take alot more weight than the factory rails and looking at them i have no doubt as the weight will be distributed through the whole steel bar. I then took a trip up to see Greg at RoofCage near Newcastle who is custom making me an allow tadie rack - 2500 long with side rails and rollers at the end that will hang over the spoiler thingy lol on the rear door.

I am going back on the 10th March to fit and will weigh it before it goes on. He can make all sorts of styles. He told me he has made a few sets to to go on the 100 and 120 series using the rhino feet kit. I will take a few pics as we do the installation.

We took all the measurements for a 150 so he has them now for the future.

I know its a while away but i've been looking for a good set of allow racks to suit for over a year now and for me this is the best option to date I have come across.

If your want something to take your tent then im sure Greg can make pretty much anything you want....at half the weight of steel.

FYI, I ended up with a MYCUBE tent from Kimberley. Reasonablely light (48kg), comfortable and can be used on standard Crossbars.
Worked perfectly for my 13 day Simpson desert trip.
Will put that up for sale soon though, I have no room at home to store the tent

Just bought a tigerz11 tent rack and rooftop tent. Not planning anything big, but regularly travel 2 - 3 hours out of Perth to take the young bloke to Enduro events and the early starts kill us.
Removing the Toyota roof rails was a pain, but achieved without breaking any clips.
Fitting the Rack was interesting to say the least, not overly impressed with the quality or fit of the feet, hopefully ample application of silicon will avert any issues. Reasonably noisy as well, but then most racks are. The actual quality of the rack, leaves a fair bit to be desired, with the mesh being very flimsy.
This however was nothing compared to the tent, with the holes for the cross bars and ladder requiring redrilling to get them to fit.
Unfortunately the quality control lives up to the price, but you get that, just be aware if you aren't prepared to do a little modification, these may not be for you.
Once again proving you get what you pay for.
Hopefully for what we need them for they will provide adequate though.

Further update on tigerz11 rack after a week or so of non stop rain in Perth, came home from site and found that the roof is fairly heavily covered in rusty water marks, obviously the rack is just painted on the outside and a liberal application of rain has caused the bare metal inside to begin corroding, not a good look at all. Will give the tent a run in a week or so and if that works out, will be looking to replace the rack with a better quality one.
Fortunately though, my liberal application of silicon appears to have worked.

I want to buy a Hannibal awning and the walls etc. I have emailed them to find a SA supplier and still wait a response. Bit poor really. You think they would respond so I can actually buy the bloody thing.
