Drawers: The table protrudes approx 18mm so provided you have a gap greater than that between the closed door and your drawers, you will be fine.
Rear Handle Access: I understand the issue but cutouts need to be avoided from a manufacturing and finish perspective. As you said, no worse than a cargo barrier. You can always unclip the table and partially open it to get to the handle if really required.
Protection: Yes, this is a great feature. I dunno what they did but the Toyota plastic changed when they introduced the 120 series and even slight marks show up like dog's testes. The table stops the rear door getting scratched all the time. My own car cops a beating but the table takes it & doesn't show the marks at all.
