  • Which towbar to fit on my 150 in Sydney.

hey guys deciding on which tow bar to fit. I know everyone seems to recommend Wynnam but they are in brisbane. Got a quote from carasel towbars. $450 for there own brand and $600 for a HR. Or should i just stick to toyota $950? Or is there another brand i can look at?

We just had a HR fitted to our 150 and are so happy with it. And still offers great rear end protection and they dont cut the rear bumper like they have to do with a toyota one. Also I noticed that the toyota bar does not have an adjustment bolt for the tongue. The HR bar does allowing you to nip the bolt up so that the tongue doesnt rattle in the socket. HR buddy all the way!

The HR towbar attaches only to the rear cross member which is a pretty average way to distribute load.

The Toyota bar is extremely well designed attaching to both chassis rails and cross member.

I have read the wynnum towbars unit is also good but cannot comment as haven't seen one.

I'd steer clear of the HR.

We just completed building a new manufacturing facility for Hayman Reece in Keysborough.

They destruct test all tow bars they design & build so I would not have any concerns regarding the structural capabilities of their products.

It is interesting that they kept their manufacturing facilities in Australia & one of the reasons for this was design, manufacture & test quality.

Hayman Reece manufacure most of the tow bars systems for the car manufacturers.

Their towbar for the Prado is rated higher than the cars capabilities i.e. 3000kg v 2500Kg.

It is also higher on the car thus improving departure angles compared to Toyota version.

              They are fitting my towbar.
              Cheers

Agree totally with wolley, the HR method of attaching is pretty poor. I have a Toyota bar and it does have a bolt to nip up on the hitch tongue to stop the rattles. The Toyota bar also provides good protection of the rear plastic, I got the toyota bar over the Wynnum only based on the cost of the Wynnum bar and getting it to Melbourne was slightly more than the Toyota, like wolley I have read good reports about the wynnum, the advantage of them is that you do not have to cut the rear plastic.

So would Toyota. Just because the towbar is up the scratch doesn't mean the mounting is. Attachment to as many chassis points as possible is the most ideal way.

The Toyota towbar is also rated to 3000kg; this is because the SWB towing capacity is 3000kg.

They just put a different sticker on depending on model.

An interesting analogy is Toyota Bull Bars are cracking at mounting points & Toyota have instructed that they are no longer fitted to FJ Cruisers and yet ARB who have been making after market bull bars for these cars for many years do not have the same problems.

HR meet all Australian Standards and are an Australian Owned manufacturer & employer.

HR's parent company also own Rola Roof Racks.

I just prefer the fact that HR does not impede ground clearance & is visually more appealing.

I do not have any interest in the company other than having seen their state of the art manufacturing facility.

Each to their, thats what makes us individuals.

I also went for the HR...small cut to lower bumper bar.Reasons 1. No need to reposition any of the exhaust parts (hangers)2.I can fit a larger fuel tank when i want, the SX (Australian versions)being only 87 litres are a tad small and the replacement tanks are 125 litres (longer, wider but the same height and a different protection plate can also be fitted with NO loss of ground clearance) which can NOT be fitted with "most" of the aftermarket type tow bars..even the genuine Toyota one.Personel choices.I've seen a few of the other "brands" and won't knock any as some people Abuse the bars and then whinge about it..
