Whilst not having toyota TPMS i on my 2nd TPMS system.
The first was a continual problem with faulty reading/s and 1 eventually being U/S. This could not be replaced under warranty and eventually a full refund given after loosing confidence in the product.
After much research, my current system I have had for 15 months is INAWISE.
Recommend it with no problems encountered
This has 2 pressure settings for both 4Wd & road settings,5 sensors fixed internally on rim( believe this is the best and worth the extra effort to start to have them fitted)with sensor receivers on module re plug able to which tyre has been rotated.
I too am a convert to the many advantages these systems offer when doing long trips & offroad driving, and are a great insurance policy to avoid potentially destroying a tyre as opposed to just having a flat.

      OEM TPMS Problems

I also have the Toyota TPMS system. Cost about $500. There were only 4 units in the sealed box, not five. Got another one supplied, as all the documentation clearly said there should be five. I installed myself and have been having problems with the spare tyre and the left hand rear tyre.

Today I swapped the spare tyre and the left hand front tyre, and guess what ? I did not tell the TPMS about my little trick by reprogramming it, so it still thinks the spare tyre is on the back door and the left front tyre is on the left front.

But, now it thinks the faulty units are the left rear (as before) and the left front.

Have you figured it out yet ???

I think its a radio range problem. Maybe the batteries on those two units are weak, or maybe because they are furthest away from the in cabin monitor, the tyres at the back and left rear corner are always going to struggle to communicate with the monitor.

If so, then Toyota have some explaining to do.

4WD Action Issue #179 has a 2 page article on Inawise TPMS Units, Pages 248 & 249. Lists 2 models, TPMS - 4WD for $380.00 & TPMS-201-6 for $480.00, the first one appears to only monitor 4 wheels, the second one does 6. It says in the article "The TPMS-201-6 monitors six wheels simultaneously and is is capable of displaying four tyres on your display at once. It's as easy as pressing the button to check your extra two tyres, and if anything goes wrong with the tyres you're not monitoring, you will still be alerted." Seems like a good system especially when towing a camper. They say in the article that the sensors in each wheel have Lithium Batteries with a life of up to 7 years.

I reckon I paid $350 from a Toyota dealer on eBay and it was $450 at my local. Maybe phone around?

Install it yourself too: the instructions are awesome and it's easy to do

They've got all accessories that I got quoted but at least 20-30% cheaper. Installation shouldn't cost me that much?
