  • Advice on ARB quote

    Hi All

I am just about to start doing a bit of work to my 150 Altitude and was wanting some opinions on the quote they have provided. It is broken down into so many different things, I am struggling to work it out.

Essentially I have been quoted on:

Colour coded deluxe bar ($1480 bar, $220 colour code, $405 fitting)
Dual Battery Kit ($380 kit, $201.40 for 46T Century STD D, $180 fitting) - Is this a good battery???
2 x 12v flush mounted sockets run to rear ($26.06 plus $180 fitting)
Redarc remote head electric trailer brakes ($250 plus $180 fitting)

I also got a lift kit included, I have no idea what they have quoted on, but he did say I would get 45 lift ands the quote just says "Sport Strut"
    Front Coil - $226.80 pair
Front Sport Strut - $459 pair
    Rear Coil - $223.64 pair
Rear Sport Shock - $306 pair
total lift kit fitting - $365.00

    Spot lights - OPINIONS PLEASE!!!

    IPF XS 1 spot + 1 drive light set - $359.10 + $158 fitting

Total cost $5600 - is this reasonable? Any suggestions for a newbie on any alternatives to the above?? I was originally quoted about $2500 for a deluxe bar by itself, so I am hoping this isn't a bad deal. There seems to be a fair bit of "fitting" costs throughout the quote, but I know this will take a fair bit of time to do??

    Thanks guys.

The price on the bar seems normal. They've quoted for colour code which means they just paint the bar the same colour code as the car. This has resulted in a lot of people getting bars that look a slightly different colour. Try getting a quote from a spray shop/panel beater for colour match. Should be about the same price but will give a better result. They may also be able to fit it cheaper.

A proper quote should be specific in what they'll be supplying. I assume you wanted an OME kit, but the price seems a bit cheaper than what I was quoted. I've been told to expect $300-$400 for fitting. If you want an alternative for similar price try City Suspension. http://citysuspension.rtrk.com.au/?s...id=13035721401

Your profile doesn't say where you live. If you update that info then you'll find you'll get advice specifically for that area.

Thanks Mike, I am from Adelaide - have updated my profile now.

I will check in relation to the OME - the quote doesn't specify. Thanks for the advice re the colour coding aswell - I certainly don't want vast differences, but I understand the crystal pearl can be a bugger to match.

      Thanks again mate.

With the rear plugs, if one is for a fridge consider getting the plug changed for a type that screws into place. Driving in the outback for 8 hours and finding that the plug vibrated loose and you have no food and the beer is warm is not a good thing.

Cliffo, for what it's worth the fitting charges, aren't too far off the mark. Apart from assembling the front strut, most of this is stuff the average punter could do, but if you aren't so inclined, I don't think the figures are far off. Have they specified what guage wire is being run to the rear?
          Regards, Heath.

            Hi Cliffo,
I recently got a bulbar added to my 150 Altitude, and tomorrow the dual battery setup goes in. My bullbar was $2200 fitted and colour coded and my IPFs were the same as yours.

Quote for Dual battery is below:

"Our dual battery offer for your 150S Prado is priced at $1499.00 installed
It includes a Redarc BC/DC charger ( correct and proper unit for your D4D powered Prado ) / Optima Yellow Deep cycle battery and all other necessary items, ie batt tray / wiring etc".

            Hope that helps...

Mate sounds about right, colour coding must be a store by store issue, I challenge anyone to pick a difference in my winch bar or rear bar. I suppose what I'm saying is try and find someone who's had the work done at that store. ( Being in Cairns my bars actually went via Brisbane for painting)

If you're handy with a socket set, you can put in the suspension yourself. Don't even need spring compressors

I've been looking into similar accessories myself. The prices look like a reasonable discount with standard costs for fitting.

When I was talking with Regency Park they suggested the 47T battery - not sure what the real difference between this and the 46T is.

Just out of interest, what waiting time are they quoting for the winch bar?

46t and 47t have positive terminal on alternative side of battery.

46 is left. 47 is right. Same battery.

I check with ARB and they have quoted on an OME Kit Mike. I also spoke to them regarding the painting of the bar and he "guarantees" the paint will match as they don't do any mixing of colours etc.

They are saying it will be about 6 weeks for the bar mate.

Seems like a good deal on the OME lift. Regarding the paint, i don't understand how painting a bar with the same colour code paint as that used on the car could end up not matching. I can only assume it comes from poor preparation and the black powder coat. The panel beater I spoke with said that a colour match applied by a skilled painter will look better than just applying the same colour paint. I suppose if your ARB bloke as guaranteed that the colour will match exactly, then you can hold him to it. Even if there is a difference it may not be enough to bother you and it'd be soon hidden under a layer of dust or mud.

I look forward to seeing pictures of your build.

ARB Penrith installed my colour coded bar, pearl white, but they sent it out to a spray painter for the paint job. I spent many years on decorating (printing) machines and can tell the slightest shade differences in a job. The black powder coating underneath makes the difference compared to the bodywork but you would be hard pressed to see the difference.

                            Cheers, Jim.

Im from Adelaide and over the past 6 years for ARB gear fitted there is no one who can come close to Adelaide Offroad in Norwood.

ARB will tell you straight up, if they undercut their sellers why would anyone else sell their products ?

Saying that if you are getting a lot of ARB products fitted at the same time you can probably get a bigger discount from ARB on it all at once.
