  • TPMS problem

I recently traded my 120 series (271000 Klms) on a second hand VX 150 series.
It has a genuine TPMS already fitted.
All was well until yesterday when the unit started beeping its head off! I pulled up and there was nothing obviously wrong with the tyre pressures. I took the vehicle to my tyre store who confirmed that all was well with the tyre equipment.
I have gone through the Receiver Actviation Procedure - still no satisfaction. Unfortunately I don't have the Owner's manual, only the Installation Instructions.

    Any suggestions?
    Thommo.

While I dont have a factory TPMS i would suspect low batteries in the sensors or receiver. What is the display showing? A tyre fault will show with a low pressure or high temperature but if there is no display that means no signal. Tried googling for the instructions or a dealer? Another thing to watch for is after a tyre rotation you need to make sure the system has relearned the new positions or if it is a cap system check these are correct. I had new tyres on the back of my car and one morning the L rear was low. Actually it was R rear and the left was fine. If you get a fault it pays to check all the tyres especially if like the Prado they are all the same size. As a final thought does the spare have a sensor and is it ok? Have you recently rotated the tyres including the spare?

      mjrandom,
Thanks for your reply - reckon the batteries are ok as the beeper works and the display is nice and clear. The tyres haven't been rotated. The spare has a sensor. The sensors are the type that fit inside the rim, so the bead has to be broken for fitting. Have tried Google for the instrustions - no joy!
As the car is still under new warranty, I have it booked in tomorrow at the local dealer - however they are not too hopefull of success. Will keep you posted!

How long have you had the car? I assume this is the first time?

I wouldn't worry about it. I've had it happen a couple of times, it'd just be interference.

Beeps like crazy stop check to see nothing's wrong, restart car and all is usually good.

Only had it happen 2 times in 12months/90,000km so not too bad.

          Thanks wooley,
I've had the car about 2 weeks and all worked normally until 2 days ago when the beeping started.
As I said before everthing checked out OK with the tyres.
The beeping now starts every time I start the vehicle. The beeps can be turned off manually, however the warning light on the display keeps flashing!

Ah ok. Perhaps the pressure or temp alarm has been adjusted.

Or it could just be a single faulty sensor.

I would go the way of a faulty sensor. I had one play up as in, I couldn't get it to be recognised when re learning the sensor id.

Took it to Toyota & booked it in for a service & for them to check the sensors. When I picked the prado up they told me it would have to be booked in again, for four of the five sensors to be replaced under warranty. So I ended up with the TPMS going off everytime I drove anywhere. Very frustrating.

ithommo, if you have no joy getting a copy of the user manual, pm me with an email or postal address as I could scan mine & email or post it to you.

              Cheers

I had intermittent faulting of the internal sensors on my Clubbie. Back and forth to the doctor and all they did was do a system reset. The system would just go into meltdown and stop working. A few months ago on start-up I had the alarm showing the LF was not reading at all (and the associated bings and beeps). It did this a few times and then went back to normal. I had one spare sensor and when the front tyres were changed a little later I replaced that sensor and since then, touching cellulose laden head, all good. A simple system relearn to get the TPMS to accept the new sensor.

                        Well everything is OK now.

Went to the local Toyota dealer today and it was just a matter of re calibrating the unit correctly.
Apparantely the unit had been calibrated to 30 psi tyre pressure and as I had inflated the tyres to 40 psi, that upset the unit!
It is now calibrated to 40 psi with a margin of error of +3 to -3 psi. We shall now see how it goes!
Many thanks to all who answered my problem with suggestions - all answers were greatfully received!.
                        Many thanks again.

So what's the go when you want to go off road and want to drop you're pressures? Is it a straight forward process to re calibrate for the days drive or is it a PITA ?
