Dont know if this has been addressed yet but if you have a look at the back of the large connector plug (to the stereo) you will see a small thin black wire.
That wire powers the amp for the radio antenna.
Connect that wire to the thin Grey wire (acc +) on the back of the same plug and it powers up the amp.
      Job done, reception is fantastic.

I have the GX (ie without the dual diversity antenna). The AM reception is pretty crap. Has anyone come up with an easy fix, without installing a whole new antenna?

Also, has anyone out in a digital radio capable headunit with a large screen, which will plug and play with the factory reversing cam (optionally fitted when new)?

          Thanks.

You can buy adaptor cables from supercrap and the camera should just plug straight in

I had this issue with a aftermarket stereo. There is a antenna wire that I had to feed 12v from the headunit I just tapped from acc's wire.
sorry if already posted I had a quick look

Hi Vxcruiser08, just wondering how you went with the new aerial. I have fitted a GME am/fm aerial to my 2012 VX Prado, reception is worse tha t with ovegicles original aerial. Subsequently fitted a Scalar ZN3 am/fm aeriL with no improvement, a lot of static. Some advice is problem with compatanility and issues with antenna amp, ivied. Any clues. Ewhen

Hi Ewhen, I had it fitted for over a year without any dramas and dramatically increased my reception. On AM channels static was near gone. Something doesn't seem right...

Hello Again vxcruiser08, thanks for your response. Yes, there is definitely something not right. I spoke with my local Toyota dealer today and they could offer no answers or assistance for aftermarket equipment. They gave me the details of a car stereo installer/expert in Artarmon (Sydney) who I spoke with today and I will be seeing him next week. Can you tell me who installed your GME antenna, if you did it yourself, did you need an adaptor for the new antenna, and if so where did you purchase it. I had my radio in and out a couple of times today, the original antenna plug has two antenna wires leading into it and then two sockets within the rectangular plug which then plugs into the head unit (plus a third smaller wire), whilst the new adaptor only has one antenna wire in the plug (plus the small wire). Ewhen

Okay so the standard antenna plug that looks the same as the GME one – I just removed that plug out of the factory toyota head unit and plugged the GME one straight into the same hole. From memory, that is all i did. Do you have any photos? A shame you'll have to pay someone to check it out!

Hi vxcruiser08, I have attached four photos, two of the original plug, (two antenna wires) and two of the adaptor plug (one antenna wire). The radio head unit in my Prado does not take the standard antenna lead, I believe they call it a 'fracka' plug, and again there are apparently dual and single 'fracka' plugs. Ewhen
