  • Hayman reece towbar - truth about inline fuse

Guys, i've been given a quote for a Hayman reece towbar for $700 (supply and fitted) which to me is a cracker price most other places are $700 supply only.

Anyway, is there some obvious things i should make sure the quote/install includes - they confirmed it includes wiring loom/harness to me.

Another stockist told me, its not possible for anyone S&I for $700, and if they do it proably doesn't include any inline fuses to the ECU (which if it does blow up cost $1000's to repair). But i can't see one costing that much.

Admitingly, i'm tempted to get it supply and installed by them for the price - but not if they take short cuts.

Any truth behind suggestions about the inline fuse? Or any precautionary measures i should take.

Hi Lurker. I had one installed 4 weeks ago by Pedders in Ferntree Gully believe it or not. Hayman Reece put me on to them. Cost was $860 and included the electronic control unit which was $186 (from memory). They were more expensive than the other quotes I got but no one else mentioned the ECU. Happy with the job so far although I haven't had time to get under the car and see the ECU to make sure it was actually installed. But I've pulled both my trailer and camper van with a WDH and all seems ok.
    cheers

su888, I suggest you phone Hardings Caravans in Kilsyth. They fit Hayman Reece but they always fit the genuine Toyota loom which has its own ECU to protect the main ECU from any spikes or shorts etc.

I had a Toyota loom fitted as part of the deal when I bought my 150 and Hardings only charged $450 to supply and fit the HR bar. Would be worth getting a quote to supply and fit the HR bar and Toyota loom I reckon.

I reckon the best solution is the HR towbar but with the Toyota loom. That's what we did. Best towbar with the best loom.
