  • Making ARB non-winch bar into a winch bar?

    Hi All,

I bought a 150 GX with an ARB non-winch bar. Being a tight ass - I'd rather not fork out for another bar and have to sell mine etc. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge in regards to converting an ARB non-winch bar?

I found this on ebay ad have read people doing it with the Sovereign bars......

    Cheers,
    Kevin

Back in the old days of the single pan design you could achieve this pretty easily. Now with the double pan design it is a lot harder. You'd probably also void the airbag compliance of the bar too. I'd look for a 2nd hand winch bar and swap them over.

Agree with D4D. Such a conversion definitely voids the airbag compliance. With a Sovereign bar, all you need is a winch cradle from Toyota which is designed to maintain the airbag compliance of the Sovereign bar. You could probably get a non ARB winch bar (Ironman, Tigerz etc) and sell the ARB bar with little difference in cost.

      Cheers

        Hi All,

Further to this post, I think I remember someone posting about Ironman 150 bars warping? Anyone have any experience/knowledge of this?

Also, if I were to replace the ARB non-winch bar with an Ironman, does anyone know if the cut-out templates are the same?

Obviously wouldnt want massive gaps if I did swap over bars.

          ARB Bar Conversion

          Hi Guys,

Saw this thread a while ago and got a mate and myself thinking if it could be done. He actually found a prado that had the bar conversion recently completed by a engineering shop in Rocky. after a few measurement and pictures the conversion wasn't that hard to complete. He did his over a week end in the shed and mine was a week later.

Nothing like a few beers and a weekend in the shed.
