Vms 150 GXL unit

Hi all,

After months of research I'm considering purchasing a VMS in dash unit for a GXL (Yes I hear you boy that's a lot of money but I'm a bit anal and want to keep the factory look and buying in Australia has any body install one of these units yet?
I had one in my 120 Prado and was very happy with it on road and off road.

They are basically the same hardware you can get for less than half the price from DigOptions, or less again from a few no-name sellers on Ebay.

They are still selling the same units you would have had if you bought within the last 3 years for your last unit.

DigOptions sells the factory fascia replacement pieces, and you can then choose to install any 2 Din stereo in the spot.

There are a number of threads on here about replacement head units. If you want more, I'd suggest searching for them.

had a look at them but you lose the reverse camera/multi function screen with the VMS new style you can move it down to where the factory radio was.
As far as I can find this is the only one that will do this.

If you just want the trims so you can mount any double din unit, try here for $129. I believe there are better double din nav units out there than VMS and the chinese one, just haven't found what I am after yet!

As Uncyspam said, I also believe the VMS is now the same chinese hardware that is available elsewhere for about $750. When I contacted VMS and asked about the hazard switch they said I would have to mount it upside-down on the other side or import a hazard switch from a LHD vehicle (which I think is in the $300 ball park, but others may have a better idea). I am sure the VMS unit runs their own software, but I really can't see the $1400 value in that above the other chinese options.

The picture VMS use on the units webpage is of the old unit that was just navigation and didn't have any media features, but used the original hazard switch location. I contacted them recently and asked if they had any refurb units (as I just wanted factory looking nav and to keep all the original radio stuff) and they said they would have a look for one but never got back to me, so I assume that means no...

Have a look at my install thread here to get an idea of what the $120 kit looks like, its very neat and actually nice to keep some of the trip computer outputs.

I'm also very happy with the Asteroid, awesome screen running oziexplorer and 2TB HDD with my entire music collection. Great unit apart from a few minor quirks that are being addressed with firmware updates. Total install cost was around 950, plus the 2TB HDD
