  • ARB awning

G'day all just a quick one I am looking at the ARB awning I was just down at my local store I like the 2.5 along the truck and 2.1 out however talking to the sales man and he said they won't warranty the 2.5 due to the length on to where it will sit on the roof racks he said go for the 2.0 and they will, I told him I wanted the 2.5 for that little extra coverage, he then said they will be releasing a 2.0 along the car and 2.5 out release end of year,

Question what length are other 150 owners fitting to there standard roof bars (rhino) I think Toyota fit?

    Cheers chris

I think 2.5 along the car is the most popular arrangement.

What warranty claims are ARB expecting that would be influenced by the length? Do they warrant the awning against overhead damage? (I doubt it)

Plenty of other brands already make a 2.0 along the car x 2.5 out if you want to go that way. If you search here, there are plenty of posts about awnings.

I think the warranty will apply to front and rear overhangs. It's not a good idea to mount a 2.5m long awning on 2 crossbars that are mounted to roof rails.

He said due to the over hang both ends and flex the rivets will fall out
Has there been many ppl fit a 2.5 on the two cross bar from Toyota

Yup. Not an ARB though. My Supapeg is more robust than most.

Currently toying with awnings... the guys at Roof Rack city and ARB both maintained that their 2.5 was fine on my 2 cross bars... To me I'm a tad sceptical, it does seem like a lot of overhang and thus movement.

What is the spacing of the crossbars? Is it shorter than a rack?

If you're worried about flex, I would have thought an extra mount point to a third rail would stabilise it.

I have a 2.5m Rhino Sunseeker II fitted to a Rhino platform, I am very happy with the set up.

Prior to having the Pio platform my sports bars were 890 apart to cater for mounting up the MAXTAX. Never had any issues with the awning vibrating.

                      Hi
Fairly sure that the installation instructions state that a maximum allowable overhang was 700 mm at the ends.
Got ours mounted at three points on Rhino HD bars using Foxwing mounting brackets, solid as also handy for other items eg. Dune pole, fishing rods.

So 2x 700 + 890 = 2290mm which is less than a 2.5m long awning. And because the racks are more towards the back, the awning will have a longer front overhang than the rear. The rivets are small and will soon elongate the hole they are in due to the parallel movement. I would go with bolted joints to get lots of friction between the front and rear extrusions.
