  • Towbar (& other OEM accessories) advice please

    Hi

I'm about to order a GX (TD manual) to replace my 02 90 series which I've had since new. Which towbar is better for departure angle - Toyota or Hayman Reese? Are there any other Toyota accessories I should be considering?

    Cheers

    Hi Ian

I have the Toyota towbar and have found it has not affected departure angle at all. One reason why I got it was that it offers some protection to the back end. Can't comment on the HR.

      I'd go Toyota OEM.

Mine came with one that sites behind the bumper with the hitch protruding through a cutout.

If I had a choice, I would have chosen OEM for the reasons Mark mentioned. Id rather smack my towbar a little than have to replace a bumper.

I'm of the understanding the HR sits lower under the bumper. Better product for heavy towing (has more variety in WDH's) but if just pulling small stuff and want to keep a good departure angle, like above stick with Toyota OEM.

        Thanks.

Thanks for the advice - looks like OEM is the go. I've asked two dealers about the bar that sits behind the bumper (as described by shodown), which I presume is similar to the 200 series. Both dealers say it doesn't exist.

I'll be going for the HR bar from southern tow bars as my car is a lease car and I don't want to cut into the bumper. quite a bit cheaper than the OEM tow bar but not sure about departure angles.
