    Hi Pudgey66,

I've been there 4 times, in the late eights & early nineties, before it became just another "Over Commercialised" tourist destination.

    "Nothing there, but everything there".

Definitely sports mode 2, 3 & 4, D would be hunting all over the box.

Best tip, LET DOWN YOUR TYRES on BOTH VEHICLES.

    I always used 14 - 18 PSI.

Just remember to keep the speed down & no sudden changes in direction.

First job when you get off Fraser, PUMP THE TYRES UP.

Returned from there last week, we used Sports mode 1 & 2 in most of the inland tracks, not sports mode auto. Still in sports on the beach but let it pick its own gears unless it got rough or was heading across to an inland track entrance.

I recommend 18 psi on the tyres, no sudden breaking or turning as this can increase the chance of separating the tyre from the rim. Grab some Maxtrax if you don't have and are a little concerned about he sand as they can be one handy bit of gear and not just on the beach.

Fantastic weather up there at the moment, also lake Birrabeen is just as nice as McKenzie just with 1/10th the amount of people and head to Eli early.

Not sure if I would say its an over commercialised destination just yet, no 5 star beach resorts over there but there are some great beach houses etc if you want to glamp. The beach camping but is fantastic, I highly recommend taking some shade cloth to use as a wind break, almost as effective as a tarp just less noise and lets a little breeze through.

      Have a great trip.

      Cheers Dan

        Hi Pudgey66
For me D or 4H , centre diff locked and 20psi in the tyres and you're good to go. If it is really soft you may have to ge down to 18 etc. And keep up the momentum . Plenty of sand driving threads in the last couple of days on the forum for you to read.
Have fun, its a great place.

        Cheers

The only thing to add is push and hold the traction control button in to switch stability control and traction control off. You will need to do this each time you start the car because the default setting is on. Otherwise tyre pressures are the key.

Just got back from a week there. Never even looked like getting stuck. Left it in d -h4 with the centre diff locked 20lb psi in the tyres. The inland tracks are rough from Xmas. Waddy point to orchid track was really rough. And watch out for the huge rut in the middle of the track going over Indian head, I hit it straight on as I didn't want to loose momentum going over on the last day and it looked level with the bonnet before the front wheels drop down into it and run straight up got a small dent in the front bash plate under the bull bar. Have a great time!
