    In Jan 2014 I purchased a 150 series and being new to the 4WD arena am confused by the advice about bull bars. I plan undertaking long distance outback travel pulling a camper trailer and want a bull bar for protection of passengers and vehicle from impact with animals. My question is about steel v alloy. On the one hand I'm advised to get steel because of its strength. On the other I'm advised that the weight of the steel imposes higher stress on the chassis rails and has led to bending of the rails and splitting the skirts. I understand that steel changes the weight distribution and typically requires suspension modifications. Can you guide me through the bullbar options? David

        for me I chose plastic (flame suit on already) over alloy as the alloy bars tend to bend into the car and you will have to pull it off the car if you hit something, the steel was a real consideration however the weight factor and wife killed it for me. I ended up with a smart bar, I have not hit anything yet so can not comment, I have met people who have and they could not speak highly enough of them.

          G'day David,
          For what is worth I believe that alloy with a winch plate is supposed to a very good compermise in the strength verses wight dabate.
          Just remember that it is a personal thing and some advise givers tend to forget that.good luck with it

            Hi David

            If you want a winch later on, maybe side rails and after market side steps buy TJM steel deluxe this has the best approach angle, tucks in nicely on to the front of vehicle and is a good looking bar. With the front air bags all bull bars have a crumble zone now and all have movement when driving over bumps, the days of solid mount bars are over with modern cars.
