  • The Budget is $4000, what would you buy for your Prado 150 and why?

I have a dilemma and only have till Christmas to decide.

    So far I have a bull bar/side steps/snorkel/HID spot lights/wheels/tint/rubber floor mats.

My budget is $4000 for my beast, what should I buy?

I would be starting with exhaust and suspension upgrade mate.. Are you going to install yourself. If you do you will have change for more goodies otherwise that will pretty much chew up the majority.
But the driving pleasure improvement is worth every cent!!

I don't have the mechanical skills to do it myself. Thanks!

Fair call.. To be honest I did a lot of "watching" when mine went in so shouldnt take credit too much..
For reference the exhaust is about a 1.5hr job and the suspension about 4 hours so thats about $500-600 labour.

So do you have these things already or are they just on the wish list? Have you gotten it dirty yet? It really depends on your planned use of the Prado as to where your spending should be directed.

Suspension and Tyres (assuming you still have the standard HT's). IMO, these are the two best performance mods you can make.

Me too , depending on how you wish to use your vehicle, but a lift & tyres should get you most places you want to go

Agree but this also pre-supposes one has a deflator and compressor to get the tyres back up again. That will only be about $300.

yep I agree.. suspension and tyres gets the nod.. looks like you already have the wheels in hand..
I am a bit biased with the exhaust as the furl/power benefits were good for me here in WA..

I was reading the exhaust system thread and I might follow Matt's advice. Replace the muffler and see if I notice a performance change, cost $200 - $400. I am leaning towards a suspension upgrade/roof rack or bars/awning/Oztent RV5. Any money left over will be going towards an air compressor.

I haven't taken the beast off road yet, I am trying to set it up for success before I go extreme off road. I am happy to set it up as a basic touring vehicle.

I currently have the standard Dunlop ATR and probably won't change it until it needs changing. It will be replaced by a set of BFG KM2.

                        Thanks.

Wear those tyres out first. Go suspension, compressor and exhaust

Seriously spend some money on Diesel and get off road, don't tackle the extreme stuff straight away but take it out and see what works and what doesn't for you. Reading on a forum and theorizing about what you need or want is a start, but its no substitute for getting out and working it out for yourself.

I know a few people who have spent a small fortune setting their rigs up and waiting until it was all done before using it, then life throws a curve ball and all that money is down the drain and you never use it.

A stock Prado will get 90% of places and one with 2" lift and some decent rubber will get you 99% of places, so no reason to not go out and explore I reckon.

                            Cheers Andrew
