TJM bullbar self installation

    Good to hear that your happy with the bar.

    I'll be looking at the 3T winch bar down the track. Not sure if I'll get TJM or myself to install it.

    How does the warrenty work if you are installing yourself?

      Ah OK, I assumed when you mentioned "handheld" before that you had one of those external high gain antenna that mounts directly on the handheld unit. The antenna that you have will mount on the bullbar just fine. Just be aware that it's only rated for medium duty so not sure how well it would survive heavily corrugated roads.

        Three local TJM dealers quoted full RRP ($1258) plus $600-750 for fitting. A no brainer to purchase wholesale and fit DIY. Even with winch and lights purchased I'm still in front. Not calculating the time spent and some extra tools purchased for the installation (Geared wrenches, aviation snip, plastic jigsaw blade, thread locker) of course.

        Warranty? Good question. TJM HQ was pleasant to deal with on a support question. I truly believe they stand behind their product and reasonable requests would be dealt with. But reading topic 5 below it seems they have all outs already build in. Dealer fitted or else.

        Their bullbar warranty disclaimer reads exactly this:

        Warranty
        1. If any product or part of a product manufactured by TJM is found to be defective during a period of three (3) years after the date of purchase,
        TJM shall repair (at TJM’s discretion) the defective product or part.
        2. Any defect in a product distributed by TJM, but not manufactured by TJM, shall be dealt with in accordance with, and to the extent of, the
        warranty offered by the manufacturer of that product.
        3. TJM does not warranty that the products manufactured by it comply with the laws of the place where those product are purchased or used. It is the sole responsibility of the purchaser to ascertain whether products being purchased, or the affixation of those products to any other object, comply with local laws.
        4. Except to the extent described in this warranty, TJM shall not be liable for any other claims, including claims arising from incorrect fitment, product or vehicle modification, faulty design, the use of the product on any indirect special or consequential damage or injury to any person, company or other entity.
        5. Modification or alteration to any product manufactured by TJM to enable fitment in conjunction with other vehicle accessories or modifications (e.g. lift kits) will void any warranty claims.

          I noted that as well. To me those big stick antennas appear more vibration affected due to their mass than the flexible and lightweight units. Experience will tell.

            I've mounted mine to the awning. Much less vibration propagation through the body and much better antenna performance being up high.

              Yes, that seems the better option. I have just put on the unit I have but the bar is not it's final resting place. How did you route the cable from the awning to the center console nicely?

                I still have to tidy up the cable routing between the awning and the roof channel but the cable is pretty much unseen once it goes down the channel beside the windscreen. Mine is a 120 and hopefully the 150 has the same channel down the side of the windscreen.

                Then once you get down to the base of the windscreen, you can find some trim pieces that you can lift to slide the cable under and then access holes to get into the engine bay. Then from there, it is through the firewall grommet and into the cabin.

                  amts - I was looking at your bracket on facebook last night and was wondering if a folding bracket could be made up to suit those new style Thule roof racks instead.

                    I have not come across a new style Thule roof racks. Probably an easy right angle bracket to adapt to the knockdown bracket.

                        Mine lasted the Simpson (and a few other trips) but then busted when I passed under a bush that broke it off. I kept a spare ($20 I think) from Jaycar and just replaced it when it broke. Its a much cheaper option.

                          Good tip. Will do the same for now as time for more elaborate solutions is running short before kick off.

                          Another question if I may is with those diff breathers. I have located their current end points in the engine bay and on the rear diff. What is the wisdom of extending them high up onto the firewall? Aren't the extra tubes just more potential failure items? If a flying stick or stone rips a newly attached tube then surely there will be problems at the next water crossing as there are then no more seals whatsoever. If they are so critical why has Toyota left eg. the rear diff one below specified wading height? Something doesn't gel here.

                            I have a 4x diff breather kit at home waiting to be fitted when I get the time.

                            If you do a DIY its best to run the tube along the fuel line were it will not get in the way of anything.

                              Hey foxpro - did you measure the before and after hight on the front. I'll like to know how much drop you got as I would expect the 3T bar to be similar in weight

                                The front dropped by 5mm to 785mm with Dobinsons GS59-700 / C59-302 fitted. Ride now feels even a little better than before. As though as the springs have a little more up travel and sit in their optimum idle position. The extra weight of the coming winch might bring them down further. I hope not too much though.
