I'm interested in purchasing an awning for my 2014 GXL Prado but want some advice on the best bars or roof rack and awning to purchase. I'm planning to do a fair big of travelling next year so am starting to warm to the idea of a roof rack, but that might only encourage me to take things I don't really need. What's everyone think

I trialed a Rhino platform briefly but realized that for my specific setup with a 3-person roof tent (1.2 x 1.8m when folded) plus awning little usable space was left. I'm now back to just HD bars plus an awning attached via some modified Rhino Foxwing brackets to keep the car height (incl. 2" lift) at 2010mm. Still good for most car parks. The Rhino platform looks good though and is versatile. I find the naked HD bars quieter and more fuel efficient on the highway.

I bought a set of Aldi roof Bars for ~$40 and fabricated my own roof rack that bolts to the bars.
I'd love a Pioneer Platform or a Tradesman style roof rack, but could not justify the coin. My total solution cost less than $200 and a couple of weekends in the shed.
I have a Tigerz11 2x2.5m awning that is attached to the rack. (this is a perfectly acceptable, well priced awning IMHO)
I take the roof rack off when I don't need it, leaving me with just the bars - which do come in handy for the bigger items that wont fit in the car.
Hope this Helps.Spilsy
