Would love to see a pic Andy.
Do most plan to have their tablets resting on the dash? I would think this would obscure a large section of the road??

I might pop in to JA tomorrow and see if I can get a long arm which rests on the top of the dash, and the tablet sits out in front of the two air vents.

Not a great photo, but what do you expect with an iPad at night

I actually ended up mounting it how you describe, it covers the top 2/3 of the centre air vents and that should help keep the iPad cool on a hot day, or cool it down after being locked up and getting a good desert heat soak.

When I mounted it the way I was originally going to it took up the whole space between the centre dash "box" and the rear vision mirror, and looked massive.

I think I'll be a good boy this year and ask Santa for an iPad mini, it should fit the gap a lot nicer

Well, after a trip to Sydney and back I can say the iPad ram mount works awesome. Solid as a rock, the only thing I can say is I wished I had one ages ago.

Thanks for the ideas - ended up getting the standard length with one suction. Having just returned from the LWE in the Flinders Ranges it worked a treat, with minimum vibration on the rough stuff. Hema maps has never looked better !

          Cheers,

            Just bought one today.
Long arm RAM mount, single suction cup and X-Grip 3 universal tablet mount. Total cost was about $180, but that was due to the rather expensive universal mount at about $116. For some reason, an Ipad Air mount is only $45 at Johnny Appleseed Annerley.

The arm can rest on the centre console, giving some additional support (sorry, couldn't get it upright in normal inserted picture)

Photo with camera directly in front of my eyes, shows how much road is covered by the 10" Samsung Tab S. (Of course someone else took the photo, I would never touch a smartphone while driving.....)

I like the look of the ones that mount to the corner of the passenger seat. Is that this model:

Do you get much movement of you ipad/tablet on corrugations and rough stuff with the flexible arm?

                    Also have one like Piggy/MLC.

No movement issues on the rough stuff plus when not needed I remove the bar, and leave the floor mount in place.
