Is there any way to pick up the police/fire etc... channels on these cd radios? Im looking at getting either a TX3540 or a TX3345.

Don't think you can mate. Pretty sure police are on digital now.
Some rural locals still use UHF, but you wont pick up any metro on UHF as they have regions/areas divided into frequencies as per operational guidelines - that's in Melbourne anyway.
