  • anyone mounted a UHF antenna to the spare wheel carry bracket ?

the odd mention in here of some doing it. looking to get a GME UHF 3120 with a two pack 4018K1 860mm antenna with a 4002 (150mm) smaller brother. i like the fact that both can screw off right at the top of the spring. figure i can use the smaller one whilst in convoy (and hence keep it out of the wife's way on the highway) and big brother when out bush.

that said, has anyone successfully mounted an antenna using some form of bracket at the rear of the spare wheel carrier. not being technically minded, i'm assuming that this is a no no in terms of protecting the antenna from vibration knocks and also effectiveness ??

    thanks

It is pretty common to mount Aerials there, particularly HF aerials which are much bigger and heavier than UHF ones.

As far as effectiveness goes, so long as the whip is over roof height you will be fine, the stubby one might not work so well.

When it comes to RF there is a saying that height is might, so given the likelier higher mounted point it would quite likely be a great spot to mount it.

Pretty sure AMTS is still doing his space wheel spacer / light holder that I am sure you could mount the aerial to.

    Cheers Andrew

I run the Kaymar bracket... Works a treat.

With the RFI CDQ series antennas, they screw off at the spring which enables removal for car park access.

I use the same bracket, it's great. Out of the way so it's not in your line of view when driving.
It is a seperate bracket to the Kaymar wheel spacer.
            Bolts on easy as

                  Hi Arien,

I got it from TJM Brendale. You could also contact Kaymar - http://www.kaymar.com.au/press%20rel...20Prado120.pdf

(Yes the 120 bracket is the same as the 150)
