Removing factory roof rails

Hi,

I'm a new Prado owner ( Previously Pajero), bought myself a 150 series.

I also bought a roof tray 2m x 1.4m.

The problem is I need to either 1) remove the factory roof rails and install rack using their brackets. My concern is water leakage once the rails have been removed and also removing the rails is a challenge for me as I have no idea how or where to start. I would ike to remove them in such a way that I will be able to reinstall them.

2) Buy 2 sets of cross bars and install the tray ontop of that, which will be nice for easy removal. The problem with that is that I can only carry 75kg.

Is there anybody that will be able to explain to me how to remove the rails (Dummies guide please)

Also is the 75kg load capacity onto the factory roof rails accurate or will I be able to load up to 100kg?

Either may be of some help.
Cant give you a scientific answer to question 2, but my head says the maximum weight permissible will be the lower of the 2...?

For a 2m x 1.4m rack, it would be better supported if the factory rails are removed and have it mounted directly to the roof using the 6 mounting points. This has a capacity of 100kg, including the roof rack you are adding on.

Ensure that the roof is sealed around the white tubes poking out of the roof (this will be obvious once you have removed the factory rails).

I remembered seeing SimpleSi's post yonks ago and tried it when i removed mine a few weeks ago. Works well, pretty easy and if you take it steady doesnt damage the rails
