  • Safari or ebay snorkel

Just wondering what the main difference between a $400 safari snorkel is and the ones you can get new on ebay for $100

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271947714...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Anyone tried either ? Any recommendations ?

A mate bought one off ebay for $100. Template holes didn't line up. Lucky he is clued in a noticed this before drilling. Also compared to my safari the plastic feels very flimsy and you can bend it by hand easily. When it comes to something as important as an air intake I'd spend the extra $$

I wouldn't trust it. Went with Safari.

I bought (for my 120 series) an $100 snorkel off ebay some five years ago
Installation was not a problem, template was ok.
The plastic feels a bit more stiff and less flexible than the big brand names but so far it was able to withstand all branches which I have hit (sometimes at decent speed)
No guarantee that the ones you get on ebay now are similar quality like mine but hey, I can break four off them until I would have been better off than with the Safari Snorkel (which might break at a certain point as well).
        Cheers
        Mike

I reckon if you're going to cut a HOLE in the side of your expensive pride-and-joy, you'd better be sticking the best quality product you can on the side of it.
          My 2 cents anyway...

I fitted a $200 ebay a few years ago from a mob in Brisbane and it was worth the money. Over the years I have fitted a number of top brands to different vehicles including a Safari and Airtec and I think the ebay one lined up better plus the inner pipe was formed rubber not cheap plastic. Can't vouch for all for sale

Hard to see from the sellers add but is that inner pipe plastic or rubber ? Looks similar to one I got but the inner rubber pipe was very solid rubber no chance of it ever sucking in. And yes I sealed the drain hole but left the flapper drain as is.

Whilst I'm genuinely sorry to hear you're having issues, the words "you were warned" (by some of us anyway) can be heard faintly in the background...

Me to sorry to hear of your Problems but the idea of a Forum I thought was of advice????
I had a 100 series Cruiser and had ARB fit a Turbo and a simular problem surfaced. After a few years. Under certain revs lack of power lots of black smoke.
Turns out they used rubber instead of silicon hoses. So I payed a lot and still got CRAP.
Stick with it and hope you get it sorted.
                          Regards Joe
PS sorry to rub it in but my $200 special is still going fine.

I am thinking I will put something in it so when its breathing under load it can not suck the hose together some big machines have a spring like running in the radiator hoses to stop this, I was think pvc pipe or something any ideas ?

Might even cut the rubber and use it to join alloy pipe with 2 clamps and a bit of sika....
