I have my antenna mounted on a knockdown bracket on the awning. Won't need a high gain antenna once it is up high and out of view of the passenger, plus much less vibrations on the roof than on the bullbar.

Awesomesauce! Gme have always been pretty good like that. Even when the warranty issue is a bit grey, they often do it to maintain their name when so many companies wouldn't.Originally posted by bazzang View PostAntenna was replaced by GME without issue. Can't fault their warranty department.

hmmm... I can! The black plastic bit at the top of the metal barrel in the base has come loose on mine - 3 weeks after it was fitted. I explained what had happened and they told me how to see if it was ok internally (using a multimeter) but then said if it wasn't I needed to buy another one. I think a 4wd antenna rattling apart in 3 weeks (even if that did include a trip to the Flinders Ranges & Simpson Desert) isn't good enough - I pointed that out in a reply and haven't heard a peep back...Originally posted by bazzang View PostAntenna was replaced by GME without issue. My email must have been answered by someone else...

Thanks for the offer Bazzang. I think mine is still ok - it hasn't rotated very far - but I'll try to check it on the weekend. I've got a GME TX3540S hidden away behind the dash so checking the cable means pulling quite a few bits out!
I'm not so impressed with the antenna base quality though nor their support.

Thats a real bugger mate! Who did you deal with regarding the warranty? Gme themselves or the store you purchased from?Originally posted by peter_mcc View PostThanks for the offer Bazzang. I emailed GME directly.Originally posted by RanJ View PostThats a real bugger mate! Who did you deal with regarding the warranty? Gme themselves or the store you purchased from?
They said to use thread locker on it so it didn't come loose again - I'm not so sure it would work on the plastic thread so I'm going to hold it in place with some glue lined heatshrink over the outside (ie covering the plastic piece and the metal barrel).

Hmmph. While glueing it down will solve the issue... its not really the the outcome I'd expect of their product. I tend to agree with the heat shrink. Failing that... a touch of sikaflex. I'd be hesitant that the thread locker might crumble under the vibrations as it dries solid. Whereas sikaflex will cure with some elasticity yet maintain a helluva bond.

The good thing about glue lined heatshrink is that I don't have to unscrew the black plastic bit - it just fits over the top. I'm guessing that to remove the black plastic bit properly I'd have to undo the nut on the spring so I could hold the black plastic bit while rotating the spring - I don't want to break the cable connections inside!
