Breathers - Besides diffs, are they also needed for transfer case and automatic transmission box?

Hi all
The title to this post really says it all. I am wondering if the transfer case and automatic transmission have breather holes and if so, should a breathing kit be fitted? (My diesel GXL is an automatic.)

I plan to extend the existing diff breather tubes but as yet need to locate their respective ends in the engine bay.
Appreciate any advice.

I would say yes. There are a couple of threads in the drivwtrain section which details the installation. If you look in the 120 section there is also detail as well as some observations about the damage and costs incurred when the transmission is flooded.

The transmission is probably the most important one, water in the diffs isn't great but you will drive quite a while before it stops you, in the transmission though, it could get very expensive very quickly and bring you to an untimely halt a long way from home.
