  • Prado getting blow away

when I'm driving on the fwy at 100km and I'm getting a side wind 32 km/h and gust at 37kl/h the prado feels a little un stable and wanders a little does any one else getting this unstableness? none of my others cars have done this as much as the prado.

I'm running 2'' lift dobinsons set up.
    pioneer platform (empty).
    tyres ko2 40 psi.

Any high wagon will do this a bit but get your wheel alignment checked anyway.

Any lifted vehicle will do this. Even unlifted vans etc.

          Maybe it's a shonky150

How are you measuring the exact wind speeds?

Could be wheel alignment, but you do get it to a certain extent, usually not too bad

I noticed this behaviour immediately after I sold my old 4Runner and got the Prado... even when travelling behind semi's on the freeway.... it is definitely more susceptible to wind buffering.

Before the 150 Prado I had a Troopy and therefore was used to being blown around.
By comparison I find the Prado extremely stable but yes now and then I get caught out by wind gusts.
I tow a 21ft Jurgens caravan and when it cops a buffering the Prado is still in control.
I have a Pedder's suspension upgrade (no Lift) and as it is a GX has 245/70/17 tyres, Mickey Thompson ATZ 126000kms with still legal tread.
Maybe the smaller diameter tyres and no lift makes it a bit more stable in the wind than others.

every thing i buy these days ends up been shonky my 150 had the 1500 rpm vibe hens my user name but the snorkel fixed that problem.

i measured the wind at the time just by looking at the willy weather app thats what is was reading at the time.

as for the wheel alignment it might be time to get another one the new suspension has settled inn now dropping about 10mm.

would the 10mm settling process effect the wheel alignment ?

So you hang your willy out in the wind and it measures wind speed. A bit like a wind sock or watching range flags billowing in the wind.

Don't want to start a debate on tyre pressures, however if unladen would have thought 40psi all round was a bit high, particularly at the front. Having said that I have never used BFG's.
                        Cheers

I have used BFGs for years. They are very stable and not prone to wandering. The issue is not the tyres. Re. the pressures, I run 32-34 around town which gives a softer ride than the 40 I run on a trip when loaded.

Yes I'd drop to factory pressures to see if it helps, but lifted plus rack you're gonna get the wind up ya.
