I used one of those straps to compress the rear coils a little bit to get them in. Worked a treat

I don't understand how a washer that sits inside the channel approximately 20mm wide can have a greater surface area of a channel nut that is 3x as long?Originally posted by Kelby View PostGalv Spring washer and galv flat mud guard washer on the bottom inside the channel and a galv flat mud guard washer on top.

The straps are the most elaborately packaged items I've ever purchased. They seem like the goods though.Originally posted by Spilsy View PostPicked up 8 of the aluminium channel nuts of eBay last night.
As well as a pair of these straps
Thanks for putting me onto them. Appreciate it!Spilsy

Myself and a mate bought a pair of the straps each and found that after just a few uses, the straps just won't release (on all of them). Even though the handle has been turned to 180deg and the catch has been released, the pivot mechanism is stuck and won't let the strap out.Originally posted by amts View PostWell I dropped in just for you

Straps are made by Ancra International ('nuff said).

Quality of the handles is very good. The rubberised grip feels very nice. The strap is like any other normal strap. I have seen thinner strap material from the like of the Grunt brand from Bunnings.
Upon inspection, I noticed that at the bottom of the gear teeth, the material has bulged out and is rubbing on the 2 folded plates that form the base and the handle.
In addition, the 2 folded plates are assembled with a tight fit/squeeze.
The solution to this is to get some slip joint pliers (the ones in the 120 Prado toolkit in the rear door) and squeeze the base plate together. This then relaxes the force of this plate on the gear and allows the strap to be released.Last edited by amts; 06-02-2017, 11:40 AM.
