  • Fog Light Wiring For GX

I have a GX on order and am looking at bull bars. The ones I like all have fog lights [ which I found to be useless on my 120.] The question is : does the GX have all of the wiring in place to fit fog lights to operate as on a GXL? If so where is it at the front of the car? One bull bar installer wants to charge me $750!!!!!! to install an Ironman bar, saying it is a 6 hour job [ their website says 3]. $150 of this is to wire in the foglights with a switch on the dash. Needless to say he is not getting the job as I have another quote of $350. I notice that Toyota have a bull bar wiring kit for $115 For the GX and GXL and this leads me to think that it should all be plug and play [ somewhere] Ideas?

the TJM bar comes with a wiring kit complete with a switch to mount in the dash.
      this would be for GX
i did not need to use it as GXL and it was plug and play.

The wires are in a gang plug on the passengers side, some GX Prados have the "bumper loom" for the fogs, some don't, it's a bit of a lucky dip. The wiring is all there in the dash, just need a GXL indicator stalk which includes the switch. Easy done

If you found them useless on the 120 what makes you think they will be any different on the 150?
All the bars have the option of having the fog lights, as far as I can tell, but they have a fill in blank if they are not fitted, or at least my ARB bar does. Never really noticed they are not there. Not the best photo but only one I have showing them at the moment.

There is something to be said for going for the cheaper bar sans fogs! Has anyone found any fog lights to be of any use? Fog is a rarity in my neck of the woods!

Also ,Andy, I take it from your post that the GX has a different indicator stalk to the GXL and so is missing the switch.

Not really a cheaper bar, you are just not paying for the fog lights to be added on to the price.
There is the option to put some round LED lights in there as driving lights if you really want to, there is a post on here somewhere showing how to do it and what lights fit.

Correct, the fog light switch is on the indicator stalk. 150 Prados have 3 different indicator stalks, the GX just has normal headlight and indicator functions, the GXL adds in a switch for the fogs and the VX & Kak also have a "Auto" setting for the headlights.
