  • 150 Ultragauge Transmission Temperature. M-Codes

    G'day all,
Received my Ultragauge the other day. Still fiddling around with its features and mounting options. Tossing up between the traditional top of steering wheel mount or one just above the drivers side air outlet. One to play around with.
Anyway on a long night shift the other night I trawled the interwebs and found some codes to program into the ultragauge for the transmission temps.
One reads the gearbox temp and the other reads the transfer case temp, I can't recall which was which and I can't find the page again but I think the first one is transmission and second is transfer case as (usually) the transfer case runs a couple of degrees hotter than the gearbox... but I am open to correction!

Transmission Temp #1 Transmission temp (°C)
    Abbr1: TFT Abbr2: 1°C
    TDATA: 07E121D9000000
    TCTRL: 92 RCTRL: 10
    RPOS: 0810 MTCH: 210000
    X: 0001 /: 0100 +: FFD8
    Out Format: 00 Ave: 00
    Left/Right: 32

Transmission Temp #2 Transfer case (°C)
    Abbr1: TFT Abbr2: 2°C
    TDATA: 07E121D9000000
    TCTRL: 92 RCTRL: 10
    RPOS: 1810 MTCH: 210000
    X: 0001 /: 0100 +: FFD8
    Out Format: 00 Ave: 00
    Left/Right: 32

For testing purposes I have both programmed in and they do sit fairly close temp wise and usually within a couple of degrees. After some more testing I will only have one on the main display (the higher of the 2) as two is a bit pointless.

So did a 500km drive today and had both temps displayed. They both rose and sat around the 85 degree mark (which is normal from my readings about the subject). However the first one, which i think is the transfer case temp would fluctuate a lot. At cruise it would sit within 1 degree of the other temp but accelerating up to cruise speed from a stop it would rise very quickly to the maximum I saw of 115 degrees. But as soon as I reached cruise speed the temp would drop back down to 80-85 very quickly, within 15 seconds. This rapid fluctuation doesn't seem right? Has anyone got any clues?

Is it showing the temperature at the output of the Torque Converter? On the Scangauge there are two automatic transmission temps - one is the pan and the other is the torque converter. The torque converter one goes up and down a lot when accelerating but is stable when cruising - just like yours.

        Thanks,
All it had was 'torque converter' as the description, but I'm guessing you're right. Is the sump the better one to use? Is the occasional jump over 100 degrees on the torque converter output ok?
