  • Toyota Genuine Seat Covers

I understand from the dealer that the front seats in the 150 series have been upgraded to incorporate airbargs in the side. I imagine this will limit the type of seat cover you can put on the front seats. Has anyone heard whether there are any aftermarket seat covers out there yet to suit the 150. I see from the Toyota web site that they have seat covers but I am yet to check how much they want for them.

Re: Seat Covers for the 150

There are quite a few generic seat covers available now from Super Cheap and similar that are compatible with the airbags
I got some of the "Ben Dark Urban" ones for my 120 with side front seat airbags. They look reaonably good for $50 or so, may be OK as a temporary measure until custom fitted 150 ones come on the market.
    Cheers, Wayne

Hi, we got the genuine front seat covers from toyota and just checked they were $374 and i think this is excluding GST. So about $400 not cheap mind you they fit fantasically. Basically there made so the stitching will just rip apart on airbag deploying.

$400 for two seat covers isn't cheap. But having something that is custom made to fit the vehicle is attractive. I'll just have to weigh things up when the new vehicle arrives. I bought it without any extras to avoid paying the extra 33% Luxury Car Tax, so I still have to put a tow bar on it, roof racks, and will probably look at getting underbody and electronic rust protection.

Re: Seat Covers for the 150

Done a bit of research on seat covers for the 150 series and here's what I've found for custom seat covers...

              (1) MSA haven't released covers yet and have not given any time frames. Apparently they need to ensure airbag compliance. Been advised that pricing will be similar to the 120 series ie: >$400
              (2) "The Wet Seat" neoprene covers are now available. Can supply 2nd and 3rd row too. Looks very smart and neoprene has a very comfortable feel. Not machine washable. Price: ~$180. Apparently they supply Toyota as well so I wonder if there is any difference between their seat covers and the official Toyota seat covers.
              (3) Black Duck seat covers (canvas) are also available. Looks and feels very tough and may not be the most comfortable to sit on. Price: >$300

Checked out the sheepskin covers from Repco and the Ben Dark covers from SCA (thanks sd70 and ozwapet2) . Both look and feel great and seem good value in price. Only question I had was how well these repelled stains and how easy it was to clean them.

Probably leaning towards the "Wet Seat" covers at the moment unless MSA can supply something soon.

                Hi Folks

The company that makes the "Genuine" Toyota seat covers is in Underwood in Brisbane, I'll hunt down the name and post it here.

                Regards, Richo.

Not sure if you are referring to the "The Canvas Seat Cover Company" in Underwood but I found out that they supply seat covers for all 3 rows for the 150 series. They haven't confirmed if the seat covers are airbag compliant. Will try to pop around and take a look at the covers... hopefully the actual seat covers look better than what is displayed on their website.

Re: Seat Covers for the 150

Just purchased a new 2010 Prado. Dealer wanted 450 for covers for each row! (that includes luxury tax, gst etc). Have a quote for custom sheepskin from Mortels at Rutherford - $700 for very high quality, custom fit, full skin front seats (including push out panels for side air bags). They have cheaper ones in the range - and are tailored for whatever vehicle you have.

I've had their lower range ones (real skin on seats, very real-looking, imitation on sides/rear) on my old 2002 TX - and they have been perfect. Easy to wash with wool wash -and like new - even now 8 years on and many many miles later. I may even go for their lower range ones for the middle seats - as they are the same price as the Toyota cloth ones. Then again the wet suit material covers seem pretty cool too.

                        Hi Folks

After full tailored sheepskins on the 90 series that lasted 12 years I've decided to go that way again, not cheap, front and middle row are $1700.00 but as we use the middle row regularly here we go.

                          Toyota Genuine Seat Covers

I will be doing Cape York in June and thought it would be a good idea to fit seat covers before the trip. I have had Toyota Covers before and was quite happy.

                          BUT…

The Toyota seat covers for the new Prado 150 are a nightmare to fit and at the cost am VERY disappointed.

My recommendation is that if you choose genuine covers that you buy about 4m of Velcro hoop & hook tape and extend the tie straps to make the fitting easier.

The main problem is that the covers may be a touch too small and require a great deal of stretching is required to fit, followed by Velcro tie straps that are too short and require fastening in the MOST inaccessible places instead of in front of the seats where you can see what you are doing and reach the straps.

I was almost tempted to remove the seats, fit the covers and then replace the seats.

At a cost of $700 retail and $500 trade I am not impressed at all with them.

Here are some pictures of the fitted covers.

Note: The pack was one head rest cover short and now trying to get a loose cover from Toyota but that is a different story.

                          Regards

                          Derek.

Can you confirm they were made by http://www.canvasseatcovers.com.au/ and they're airbag compatible? I'm considering a set of these for my 120.
