The high beem lights on the 150 GXL are 9005 (HB3) bulbs, I've been toying with the same thing, have'nt made up my mind 35 watts or 55 watts

I've got a ARB bar being fitted next Thursday, little bit concerned with shadow from the HID's thought i would hang back and see what others experience first with this new bar. ARB have said there is some shadow with the VX and Kakadoo

Maybe its the hangover being Sunday and all, but for the life of me i cant figure out how the shadow would be any better/worse with HID's as opposed to Normal Halogens with the ARB bar on. :?

OT: If you dont mind me asking, how much are you paying for your ARB Bar (assuming its a Delux?) supply and fitted? Im trying to get the same thing so interested to compare pricing.

On this topic, can you guys who have done a HID upgrade, please give your opinion on either 35 watt or 55 watt.
Is it worth going to 55 watt?
                Geoff

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

Don't bother with 35w, minimum would be 50w low and 50/75/100 high beam.
35w lacks the punch in the wet and is almost akin to no lights

                    Hello Ryzz,

Your choice of HID colour temperature will have more effect on the increase in visibility quality than the power output you choose, I would go for 55 watts low at 4300 degrees and 55 or 75 or 100 watts 4300 degrees high. Your manufacturer also sets the quality of the bulb and Philips are the best but only make 35 watts.

Sorry to confuse you but power is only one issue to decide.

                    regards

                    Ross

I have just converted three rally 4000s to HID ( 35w / 6000 ) and am very with the result. I don't think they are the claimed "three times brighter" but they are definately heaps better.
I live in remote NT and drove in darkness for the first time last week. The only problems I found was the reflection from the ( sparse ) street signs is much brighter than it was with the halogen bulbs and the fact that I was being flashed at about 5kms away on the straights. ( Im not joking ).
I'm not sure where you all are but I presume that most of you live in town and if so these lights would be a waste of time and really annoying dealing with the reflection I reckon. Maybe a softer light would not be as bad.

I am glad I left the normal high beam alone becasue at least now I can turn the spotlights off and not be blinded by signs or annoy everyone else.

As I have HID Lightforce Genesis I have found when driving for a little and then dipping for oncoming cars I found myself all but blind!!!

I am considering 35W 4300K Lows and 55W 4300K Highs. The Lightforces are 35W 5000K so should be too different. I am going to do the Lows first and see how I go. Really wondering where to mount the ballasts...

I've put a how to conversion thread up on installing hid in a 150, don't bother with 35w low, buy 50w and you won't be disappointed. I'm running 50 low and 75 high, all 4300k.
