  • IPF HID spotlights

    Hi All

I just got quoted $892 for IPF HID 900 spot lights EACH ! Quote is from ARB in Perth. Has anyone else fitted these lights, are they worth the money ?

    Cheers,

    Stewart

    Hi Stewart

First of all how much remote night driving do you do? If heaps then HID is the way to go, otherwise the IPF regular spotties are good and for about $300.00 a set good value.

      HI Richard

That is a big difference, $300 vs $1800 for HID. I am planning to travel North to Broome and around but not planning alot of night driving.... so maybe regular spots are the way to go.

      Cheers,

      Stewart

Another option would be to get the normal lights, and if you are not completely happy with them after a while, do you own 55w HID upgrade. The kits are alot cheaper and by doing it that way, you wont have to outlay $1800 straight up

          Re: IPF HID spotlights

Got some on my prado and if i had to buy some again would be purchasing regular IPFs and converting them myself. While they are def an improvement over regular IPFs they are not great value. The ballasts are an OEM made by osram and are good quality but are only water resistant. I had one ballast replaced under warranty after it died crossing a river. They were mounted behind the bull bar which was not recommended, the workshop then moved them higher. Since then I have used liquid electrical tape to seal the connectors and mounted so the connectors are the lowest point - this makes sure no water gets in and if it does can drain out unlike the original install.

The IPF ballasts are like this ...
'98 Grande V6 - ARB Sahara bar, IPF HID spotties, ARB compressor, GME UHF, OME Sport suspension, 265/75 MT ATZ 4 Ribs, steel rock sliders, Safari snorkel, Tigerz11 winch, rear ARB locker, Rhino platform rack.

You can purchase IPF900XS lights, that have been converted to 55W HID from Newpro-tech. These are less than half the price of genuine IPF HIDs, are 55W rather than 35W and have the ballasts installed inside the light housing.

I got the IPF's off ebay along with the HID kit using 5000K temp globes.
Cost was $660 including postage. Another mob wanted $720.
Light output is fantastic and natural looking, no blue tinge etc

                Re: IPF HID spotlights

I have two vehicles with a mix of each

Vehicle 1 Prado: This vehicle has three lights on board -

1 x IPF FACTORY HID "SPOT"
2 x IPF HALOGEN with HID CONVERSIONS "SPREAD"

On this vehicle the colour difference is slightly obvious between factory HID and the two upgraded lights , however the light out put is enough for me not to worry about it. For the money again I would simply convert all my lights and save the dollars for something else.

                Vehicle 2 100 series Cruiser

2 x IPF FACTORY HID "SPREAD" Very good lights, but again it is $1800 just waiting to be damaged / stolen / or perhaps swapped onto the other vehicle............
