The bracket comes with the radio, and you dont really need it, and you dont need to screw it in either. The fit is so tight under the heater box, it will not move. Its like the space was designed with this in mind

I assume you mean the bracket for the antennae, if so then it was just a GME one I picked up from BCF, can't remember the price now but it was definitely a GME branded one.

It doesn't flex a lot when driving, I also remove the top section of the antennae when not in use, just screws off, as I kept hitting the garage door opening, this seems to reduce the flex a bit. I have been to Noosa Northshore for a quick run on the beach and kept an eye on the flex and seemed to be ok. I was also concerned about the paint rubbing on the side of the bonnet so I have stuck a piece of clear plastic on there. It is pretty tough stuff and was from an old iPod cover I had, one of those invisible shield type products, apparently they use the stuff on helicopter blade tips (according to the marketing) and has shown no signs of wear or rubbing so far.

        Re: GME TX3340 install

I have one of these to install when I pick the new car up too.

Did you have a manual to know how to remove the panels or did you just work it out? I'm scared of busting a retaining clip or something and ending up with a rattle or two!

Do you have to take the panels on the right hand side of the drivers foot well off (assuming I position the head unit on the left hand side where you have) or can the left hand side trim be removed separately? I guess what I'm saying is, is there an order the panels come off in?

        Cheers, Sam.

If you stick your head underneath you will see the order without to much challenge.

First remove the top kick panel under the glove box, 1 screw at the front
Next remove the glovebox (open the glovebox, remove the hinge near the passenger door, then lower glovebox as far as possible before gently pulling it back towards the seat, it will "POP" out.

Next remove the strip above the glovebox surround, you'll just need to get your fingers under it and pry it out.

Remove the kick panel on the RHS of the passenger foot well, just pull it out from the front gently. Next you need to lift up the kick panel that runs along bottom of the door, this just pulls up (get your fingers under it from the inside of the car and lift it up). Once this is out you can gently work at removing the kick panel cover on the LHS, as mention though, there is a really painful clip so just take it slowly and investigate as needed.

Once all this is done, remove the glovebox surround with a couple of bolts (4 from memory). You may also wish to remove what looks like an airbag cover that is just a panel that sits between the dash and the door.

This will give you the most access to get to the "Monster Grommet" that runs through the firewall, (See david's photos), and just cut open one of the nipples and feed the aerial cable through.

As for the engine bay, if you want to mount the aerial on a "Z" Bracket, its pretty easy.

Remove the front black radiator cover (see my other post on installing HID's for instructions if you need), them once this is done you need to pull the black water guard strip off (this is a PITA, you just need to stretch it in opposite directions to get the eyelets out. After this you just need to take out one bolt, slide the bracket in, put the bolt back through. Keep in mind, i think i put my bracket in a vice and bent it slightly as the gap between the bonnet and the guards runs at about 80 Degrees, whereas the bracket is 90 Degrees).

Hope this helps, its pretty simple, just work through it methodically and you'll be fine.

This gives you the most acc

              Re: GME TX3340 install

I didn't take out the glove box, I just stretched a lot and managed to squeeze through the cables in hindsight if I was to do this again the better access the less shredded fingers!

Just take it steady and you should be ok.

Yeah, except you have to put your hand on your head and spin 3 times before you start putting it back together. :-p

                        Re: GME TX3340 install

Thanks to everyone that has contributed for this thread. Great advice for putting in UHF. I have a GME TX3600 that had the remote face which I have recently traded with a mate for the LCD mic. My vehicle doesn't arrive for another couple of weeks but I am getting everything ready to start the install as soon as I get it.

I was wondering if anyone has come across a panel that fits into the blank spaces near the traction control and '2nd start' buttons, that has a RJ45 / RJ11 (ethernet / telephone plugs) pass through connector built into it? The LCD mic I swapped for came with an extension lead that has a pass through F-F connector with it but if there is something more professional available I would love to get my hands on it. My intention is to have a UHF outlet on one of the swith panels where I can simply plug the LCD handpiece in when I'm using it and unplug and store when I'm not.

I have looked at places like Jaycar and DSE but not found anything suitable. If I can't find something I might have a crack at fashioning something out of a switch panel blank, a dremel tool and some superglue...

                        Thanks in advance,

                          Re: GME TX3340 install

Update... I managed to find a RJ45 / cat 5e pass-thru connector that fits almost perfectly into the space left when you remove a switch blank. I also found a bag of little coloured face plates that clip onto the connector to make is perfectly against the same spigot that the head of the switch blank does. Turns out there is a heap of plastic ribs inside the swithc blanks and they're about 3 inches long! Who would've thought.

Check out my rig for more details and some photos of the finished product...

                                Thanks Davidsford,
This was is a very useful post for me. I took delivery of my new Prado on Friday. I have the same radio and will be installing it over the next weekend.
I installed it in my old Patrol in the same manner. Only in the Patrol I could get in behind the centre console without having to remove any panels.
I will not be hooking straight to the battery though. I want mine to turn off with the accessory switch.
                                Regards Cyclone.
