What is the Colour preferance of people on Prado Point?
Im running 30w 4300k in my low beam as I thought it was a closer colour to a normal head light colour.
Is there a better option than what im running as I just had a globe blow?[/QUOTE]
Most people say 4300 - 6000 are the most optimal colour temps. Any higher and it goes blue/purple, any lower and it goes yellow/orange.
My Rig: 150 GXL D4D, Tough Dog adjustable suspension with 60mm lift, Polyair bags, ARB Winch Bar, Warn Winch with Dynamica Rope, Outback Ideas recovery points, GME UHF, HID Low/High Beam, Lightforce Genesis HID Spots, Dual Battery Setup with rear power outlets, ARB air compressor in engine bay, ~30L Watertank mounted behind fueltank.

        Hi Ryzz,
I run 4300K Hids. They are the brightest Lumen of the HID colour temps(most OE use this temp) , some say it has a a slight yellow tinge, but I cant really pick it. The 5000K lights are a lit bit more pure white but actaully ever so slightly (i don't think you would pick it) less lumens.
You cant go wrong with either.
IF you wnat that blue tinge you got to start getting up past 6000K

        See the scale here.

There's good reason why car manufacturers don't fit blue lights as oem.

Have a read of this before installing anything with a blue tinge (Greater than 5000K)

          http://wordpress.mrreid.org/2010/12/...t-seeing-blue/

Basically the human eye isn't designed to see blue very well which makes it a poor colour for driving lights

Has anyone recently done this using Philips kits? Where did you source them from and how much did you pay?

There are a lot of Philips Patent kits out the, which are not made by Philips themselves. I'm chasing the genuine article.

            Thanks!

I am told that there is a lot of fake Phillips gear out there. If you want the real deal, look up the authorised resellers from the Phillips site. http://www.lighting.philips.com.au/v...u=9&id=1051600

I fitted my truck with HID everything last night......

All I can say is LET THERE BE LIGHT!!!!

35watt hid to low beam and fog lights
                55watt hid to hi beam
Led t10s are a waste of time matches the colour output of your main lights though

I got 6000k globes all round but they are sending me a complete set of 5000. And a complete set of 4300k globes to compare and take unedited pictures for them best thing I've upgraded on the car in my opinion so far.....

                BJ

Ps I'm now going to organise a group buy for these as well give me a few weeks to test them out in the bush!!

obviously no one bothers about auto-leveling devices ???!!? i have to say thanks for blinding everyone else on the road . i realy think thats absolutly selfish and dangerous mod. i'm not a friend of cops , but specially for the safety of others i hope they start looking into that type of modification and do something about it . i do lots of night driving and im over it getting blinded all the time ,especially by the badly installed aftermarket hid's.

X2. By all means stick whatever you want in the high beams, but leave the lows alone. 150 lows are annoying enough to drive towards in stock form and I can only imagine what they would be like with HIDs in them. I won't even start on fogs...

There was a thread a while ago about the self leveling not working and causing more issues. I have the HIDs in both and if they are properly adjusted using the dash adjuster they don't blind anyone.

I agree on the fogs/driving lights, they are a bloody nuisance.

I agree with you Dave, I'm going to upgrade the high beam to HID, as i won't have a bulbar for sometime, so can't fit spot lights - and the factory high beam is pretty crap. I figure your only going to have the high beam on when there is no one else in front of you, so you won't be blinding anyone.
                          Geoff

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

Yep, it sh!ts me no end. Especially people who think they need low beams on steroids for driving around town but don't need to worry about auto levelling. Not a problem when you're on the sitting in the seat behind them.

I know the low beam HIDs are being targetted here for defects. Everbody coming the other way hates them, including me.
I have hid spots but can't understand why anyone would want / need them in low beam. The reflection must drive you city people mad with alll the reflective signs.

I reckon you need a good low beam more on country roads, in the city it achieves naff all. The lens on the HIDS and non HID Prado look identical so any issues will be poor adjustment.

Most of the time those glarey blue lights you see in cars are 100w halogen fitted to old cars. Definitely shouldn't fit HID to a reflector style low beam light.

I do agree that whatever mod you do its got to be done sensibly.
