BTW, my last comment wasn't directed at you, mainly BMWs and ricers driving around here with fog lights on all the time.

    Max

Not bad at all BUT I will be replacing the globes for yellower (I had 6000K in, Im getting 3000k for the fog lights (I will admit I asked for the 6000k to match the other lights, so my stuff up after speaking with guy I got these off , first comment back was I told you so) but still had reflection about 50% of what low beam did..

    No worries about the comment.

It looks the same as the NT law relating to fog lights.
rwo, The best I can figure out it's because thay can be dipped / turned off, unlike low beam and so are the same as high beam or spotlights.

I'm sure they look really cool and maybe someone even told you they're okay but until the laws are changed your current setup is going to be illegal.

The point I was getting at in my original post is that there are too many people driving around Sydney with poorly adjusted aftermarket HIDs creating another distraction for road users. Do you disagree?

Maybe they don't realise how annoying it is, not so much for me in the Prado but a majority of the cars which will have the driver lower. Maybe they couldn't care or maybe they're just too busy playing around on their new phone to even notice.

D!ckheads driving around the city (or anywhere there's no fog) with fog lights on is another discussion in itself.[/QUOTE]

Agree on every point , specialy the fog lights.

And BJ, im happy for you that a pro sparky installed the lights for you , but obviously he didn't know that HID lights need to be seated in a projector type housing instead of your standard 'reflector' type head lamp . And you're right ,we all should do our research first before we open the mouth , and let me tell you , no matter what, your after market HID's are illegal, just have a read in ADR and have a look here http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...nversions.html

That last link had some useful information. I assumed that the projector lens on the Prado was the same for HID and non HID, but sounds like that may not be the case.

Mate, the thing is they're not. Like so many mods (eg: window tint), it's not illegal until it's installed on your car and you want to drive on public roads. Unfortunately there are too many people out there who will sell you anything just to make a quick buck. The information is pretty easily accessible these days so it doesn't hurt to find out for yourself before spending the $$.

While you can't believe everything you read on forums, even the original poster tells us that his setup is illegal...

That would be the way to do it if you really wanted to improve the low beams.

Thing is, you can bleat all you like about how YOUR installation doesn't blind people, people should look away from oncoming lights etc etc, fact is most modified lights are rubbish, too bright, not aligned correctly and damned annoying, if not dangerous. If you've managed to upgrade them and they really don't annoy people then nice work, but if it's that important to get that little bit extra brightness from them then why not upgrade to the factory HID's? And remember, all you're doing is increasing the brightness, not the area that is lit, so the gain is debatable anyway.

For those interested, there's a mob on ebay doing full plug and play HID upgrades for the 150:

                    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/35W-H11-6...item27c7f95384

I was considering getting them until I read this thread and the legalities involved turned me off. They certainly don't mention in their ad that they are illegal, just to check your local laws to confirm if they are. Even though I've changed my mind though, for others who are considering doing it anyway, it might be an easy way to go about it.

Guys, why does the bumper need to be removed? I can't work it out. To mount the ballasts?

The problem with 6000k is that it is very different to oem, ,much bluer, which means you're more likely to get picked up by the cops and it is not as effective as 4000k.
