  • Awning attached direct to factory roof rails

I did lots of searching but couldn't see if this has been covered before on a 150 or previous generation. Wondering if it is possible to attach an awning (I have an ARB) direct to the factory roof rails with some kind of bracket or some other way, without roof bars or cross bars?

I don't even know if the weight would be too much and might pull the rail off its mounts  so it could be a very bad idea but would look kinda neat and save me having to purchase a set of bars at this point in time.

Check out my build thread, my ARB awning is bolted to the cross bars. As there's no slot in the 150 roof rails compared to the 120, you'd be hard pushed to fit the awning directly to the rails. As I have a height restriction at the car park at work, mine is 5 mins on and off.

Yeah, I thought I might have trouble going direct on to the rails I had mine setup the same way as you have on my old car (Pajero) but the feet for the rack I have are different on the Prado, was just trying to avoid spending another $200 at this stage on new feet. Might have to get selling some of the old stuff on ebay

Re: Awning attached direct to factory roof rails

        Folks

I have Rhino Sports Bars on the factory rails and have a Foxwing attached to them. It only takes 5 minutes to put the Foxwing on and off the bars as we take it off when not 4WDriving, I have done some low range work with it on and it seems to be going fine. I'm very happy with the Foxwing (apart from the price) as it is so easy to put up and pack away, gives a heap more coverage especially over the rear door.
