I mounted my Prodigy on the R/H side of the dash (see photo) and it is well out of the way of the knee bag split. Yes it is close to the door lining, but does not interfere.
Just fitted a P3 on the RHS today. No problems hitting knees or anything

I emailed Toyota about where they would suggest putting a brake controller , the response was less than helpful.
"We would firstly like to make you aware that Toyota Australia does not recommend modifying Toyota vehicles out of the original specifications. Due to this, we are unfortunately unable to assist you with the modification you require."
I know the bottom of the dash is low but could it not actually be put there?
It is only in an emergency and if youhave the time to reach it near you knee surely 6 inches lower would not be out of reach? ( this is just a personal opinion as I am still trying to figure out where to put it. and the UHF )

Here's how I mounted my P3 using heavy duty Velcro from Bunnings. Hasn't moved or come off even when doing off-road work.

I have seen a few put it there but then the comments that this may still interfer with the knee airbag..
I was also thinking about mounting under the dash out of the way.
I know you may need to adjust but this should only be at the start of a journey so the unit could have enough spare cable to detach from clip in unit and pull out so that it can be adjusted ( then pull over and stop and put back under the dash.)
As for emergency use could mount a remote actuator on the dash.. ie unit is triggered by brake light activation so if wire from brake light goes to a (momentary )switch and that goes to the unit the other wire to the switch could be positive from fuse box. This would surely make the unit behave like you have braked ? ie push the button the positive is sent through to the unit this would look like the brake light is on.
(I would have an auto electrician do it... to costly to stuff up)

The position shown above is well clear of the airbag opening so it will not impact on the operation of the airbag.

As for installing a momentary switch, I don't think that your wiring logic will not provide full braking voltage. The unit will only do this when it senses heavy braking or when you trigger the emergency switch.
