    Hello Everyone,

I currently have a 150 and I'm wanting to get side steps & rails.

Does anyome know if any one has or is producing them.
I'm waiting for the Tjm bar as it looks different and has nice lines.
    Any info would be great.

excuse my dumbness here, what difference is side/curtain airbags going to have to side steps? Only the GX missed out on the factory installed step anyway.

I think the Issue here is that the sensors fro the side airbags are in the sills and therefore they have to design something that will meet ADR. I fail to see why something could not be designed as I am sure that there are late modle 4X4s out there with the airbags and have side rails etc on them. Time will tell. I think ARB are doing alloy side steps but not steel.

There seems to be a bit of confusion and contradiction around the side step issues. Some say you can't put stell side steps on because of the air bags. I guess the crumple factor of the alloy side steps allows the sensors to still activate in the event of an accident.

Despite this there is a place in Newcastle who is installing steel side steps on prados for a large engineering firm. I have spoken to the installer and he claims that the side steps will not interfere with the air bags.

They are using the following types of side steps.

I hope they have good liability insurance or a disclaimer

Got an ARB email today, to have a look at thier latest.............

              http://www.arb.com.au/news/newsletters/au/

The 3rd or so page shows a 150 with what looks to be steel sidesteps !

So, seeing these guys are pretty thorough, can only assume it can be done !

              Cheers

The article calls out they're prototype. I wonder what model they're for and it wouldn't be too hard to retro fit them to a 120...

i can see a patrol on the 3rd page with side steps..? page 8 onwards has the prado in more details, but these look to be standard steps on their vx.

trust me, i'm dying for these.. i literally ripped the passenger side step off on the weekend.

                    Dan,

Page 9 on the downloadable pdf version.

I thought they looked aftermarket, but based this on that they look steel, and different to my GXL ones. It would seem the image has been stretched also, which does'nt help!

Join the club, I bent both of mine on the weekend, mainly due the the angle steel that protrudes down too low, being pushed upward, make either end higher
than the middle of the step now. Bad design. I'm thinking it may look better without them, but would require that rubbery type paint on the underside of sill to protect from stonechips etc. Might wait and see what comes out in the near future.

                    Cheers

hey when i was last a arb i spoke to the bloke about side rails, and he said they will be similar to the 200 series landy rails

                          http://www.arb.com.au/products/arb-prot ... s/4415010/

not the best photo, but the rails tuck down under the quarter pannel in front of the original side steps. the bloke said the prado prototype was very similar, thats the only way they'll get adr approval

in the photos in the news letter you can just see how the rails zip under the sills rather than connect to the side steps

                              Hi folks

Mine are already bent as well, but apart from getting in and out of the car, don't you want something that is going to give and not damage the panels or hook you up off the ground. Most side steps can be fixed up by jumping on them and then straightening the brackets. The worst part is the sticks that get caught in them on forest trails.

                              Regards, Richo.
