  • window tinting who would you use?

We had the windows of our prado tinted by Tintacar in North Melbourne recently. The car looks great and they did a great job. The last clown we used who "PROFESSORS" to be the best, would not repair the tint on our car which had bubbled and distorted within 3 years because "we didn't have the certificate". We had the receipt which shows the date, the price, the product used and the registration of the car. However we were not given a "certificate" by his staff but he insisted no certificate no replacement. Oh and he became quite threatening on the phone too so I asked him how he stays in business and he responded "by tinting a few hundred cars each week".
Lets hope if I have any problems with tintacar in the future I won't be asked if I " have the magic beans to go with the receipt" before they will do anything about it.
Now I don't PROFESS to be an expert but I would have thought a receipt would suffice. After abusing me he agreed to look at it only if I took the car to his head office (miles from me and not where I had the work done) and leave it with him (because he wanted to meet me face to face - the tone said it all and left me no doubt as to what he meant). Yeah right as if I would trust him with my car after that display. His name rhymes with dick and that's what he is.

I had no problems with Tint a Car, very happy with their job, but they wer'nt the cheapest.

I think I liked the theory that they have too much to risk (Reputation of too many stores) to stuff it up.

are these non-metallic tints to suit the antenna in the windows?

i've used Solartint on my wifes falcon with good results.

when i'm ready to tint, i 'd like to get it darker in the rear windows and darkest legal in the front.

the two smaller windows in the cargo area in the back have antennas in them i believe.

I hadn't realised about the antennas in the window until the man at Tint a car pointed it out. He recommended using the Midnight express. Cost was $325.

No actually, they also had Formula1, Bolle', unbreakable, octane and I think one other on top of the midnight express. Each had different warranties/Uv ratings etc etc

Re: window tinting who would you use?

I had a problem with Tint a Car in Melb. They are all independent franchises and the one I went to removed the interior door skins to tint the windows and damaged them. Head office were no help, they said I had to persure the problem privately with the franchisee. And yes they were about the dearest around. Mates have had good results and prices with the Tint Professor.

Can anyone tell me what tint is on the rear seat/wagon of the new prado. I would like to get the front windows done to match, legal requirements pending.

GX and GXL have no tint. VX and above has "Privacy Tinting" or do they call it security tinting? anyway.. they have tinting that is Darker than legal, well at least it is in NSW.

I have a GXL and want them to tint it illegal in the back windows, and darkest legal in front.

It really makes no difference to me if they make the biggest margin on the one they recommended or not. As long as it looks good (which it does), is fitted well (which it has been), and a guarantee that if anything should happen to it during the warranty period, they will fix it without question or without demanding a certificate or some other piece of gobbledygook that was never issued in the first place like my friend the Tint Professor did.
The tint professor had 2 attempts to get my previous car to my satisfaction and 3 attempts on my sisters car about 12 months later. She sold her car not long after so I don't know if it bubbled/distorted as well.

                              Folks

I selected the tint I wanted and then looked for a dealer. The cargo windows have the am aerial in one window and the fm in the other. I used 3M non metallic tint as it doesn't effect performance fo the aerials and the warranty is covered Australia wide at any authorised 3M installer. The colour is a "black" rather than a green that Midnight Express is. I have a company car with Midnight Express on it and the radio reception is effected. Express Tint did a great job were a few dollars under the others, gave me a loan car free of charge for the day.

                              Regards, Richo
