With that much weight on the roof I'd just be careful taking corners at high speeds... A good way to end up on your lid.

No corners at high speed in the Gibson Desert.
Bilstein shocks and Dobinson springs from Zordos made all the difference in handling.

Each to their own mate, I'd personally never store that much weight on top of any car- You're asking for trouble particularly since you've raised the center of gravity with a lift kit, and you're exceeding the reccomended loading by over 200%.

              .
Handling, cornering, wallowing - all that is entirely up to you and I am sure you will drive to conditions. That's not a concern at all.

But have you considered insurance? Let's say you hit one of our family with that load up there. You killed or injured someone else's kid that needed life-long support from there on in.

Of course you didn't mean to (no one ever does, and they usually pull out the 'it's my first accident' or 'I'm such a cautious driver!' line. But that family could now be up for tens of thousands of dollars in care either immediately or over a life-time. You going to pay that? No, of course you can't afford $40K after tax for the next 40 years for a kid with home care requirements.

Your insurance will pay... oh dang, hang on. Over limits = unroadworthy. Unroadworthy = uninsured. If the payout is big, I can assure you they will check. I put this kind of foolishness in the same boat as drink driving. You want to wrap yourself around a pole drunk - go for it. But who gave anyone else the right to put my family at risk because of it?

I hope I am nowhere near your vehicle when you drive. Oh, and by the way - if I hit your car, then my insurance won't pay you out as you shouldn't have been there. Third party will, however, cover the injuries.

The point I was making was that the stated load capacity from any manufacturer is well underrated.
And also that this a good alternative to the Rhino backbone system which leaves you always stuck with a big platform on top even when you don't need it.
Rhino backbone is rated at 120 kg and 360 kg static.
I overloaded mine for the desert and was prepared to take the consequences on the vehicle.
                There were none.
It was the desert. I was not going underprepared. You don't get to tow anything out there. There were several trailers abandoned beside the track.
There is only so much you can fit inside the 150.
There was a rough plaque out there from a crew who were stuck for a week because it rained.
I got rained on for 24 hours in July and had to sit out another day before moving on.
At one stage drove for three days and did not see another vehicle.
That's what Prado drivers do when they are having fun.

Once you hit civilisation (the black shiny stuff) you can ditch the water you have left and halve the weight.

So what are the options if you want to keep the factory rails? I want to keep the rails and just chuck the basket/tray on in 2 minutes when I want to go away. Not fussed about height or anything but I definitely want it to just clip onto the factory rails easily
