Portable 240v compressor

Hi everyone,

just bought my first Prado after lots of great advice from this forum, thank you for all the advice!

I’ve bought a 2014 GXL and want to do some soft sand driving, so obviously need an air compressor, BUT I also need an air compressor for home (wood turning) as a clean up tool.

So I’m looking for a portable air compressor 240V that I can plug in to the boot 240V socket when we’re on the sand, but also take out and use at home. Would prefer as compact as possible but still with some grunt. I’d also like to get an air ratchet gun in case I need to take a tyre off, and an air blower to clean down the undercarriage if required.

1. Has anyone got any suggestions?
2. Is there any downside to doing it this way rather than 12V straight to the battery?

As I need one for home, trying to kill two birds here with one stone...

The outlet in the back certainly won't drive a main powered compressor.

The 240V outlet is 100W. The majority of 12V compressors pull upwards of 25A, so 275W. Ish. No 240V compressor will run off that outlet.

best advice is buy something decent for home and something decent for the Prado and get a cordless impact gun (not the driver variety).
