I have set mine up with phone and audio set through the BTA. Thatway I can select a playlist on the iphone and play it that way without having to look down at it too much.

I have also bought a cradle that plugs into the 12v outlet below the gear knob. It has a flexible arm on it that allows me to angle it so I can see the phone. This is good cause you can easily see who's calling in and what songs are play etc with a brief glance. It also changes the phone though the cradle/dock.

Is there any way to setup the speed dials on the car phone book without voice tags? It's kind of annoying to have the car stereo repeat your voice tag when you use the speed dial function (using the radio 1-6 buttons).

I have done exactly the same thing with a Belkin unit, works really well. I have upgraded to IOS4 and the new TOm Tom and it works really well. The only issue is the steering wheel controlled voice tags don't work so you have to use favourites on the phone. Is this youe ecperience ss well?

The voice tags work fine for me - still using OS3 but now upgrading to 4. The sequence I use is to press the lower call button, say the name at the prompt, then press the "answer" steering button to dial after the name is announced back to you.

If it was working before OS4, perhaps the phone may need to be paired again

I have ios4 and the voice dialing works fine in mine too. Just make sure you follow the sequence. First the speak button then say the name then press the answer button to confirm. Same as using the radio 1-6 speed dials.

It works as you describe when the phone is paired as a phone only but when paired as phone + audio it stops working. So I either get voice calling or music and Tom Tom intructions through Bluetooth. Can't have both it seems!

I had some strange things happen when I upgraded to iOS4, I deleted the pairing from the car and the phone and re-setup as phone+audio and mine works fine now. I can use voice dialing or speed dial from radio panel. Maybe try re-setting up from scratch again?

I can get both audio and phonebook over bluetooth. I suggest that you delete the bluetooth connection on both your phone and the vehicle and pair again. It should work with iPhone 3 or 4.

Hello everyone, congrats for this great forum!
Here is my first post. I try to stream music from the iPhone but I never see the option "phone & audio" when I am pairing. Am I missing something or you guys are talking about hacked iPhones?

Yeah, I realised today that voice dialing only stops working when the radio is set on the BT mode. Not sure if tgis is normal or not, but I can live with it.

Hi Welcome to the forum, I 'm pretty new myself..


Not sure if the Kakadu is the same procedure as the GXL but when you start the pairing process you cycle through the options (left button on the GXL radio) until you see phone + audio. Once you select this you can stream music through BT.

FWIW, I find that Bluetooth doesn't give the same quality sound as the USB option. I only use lossless or uncompressed music and it seems bluetooth doesn't transmit the full range. Still, its handy if a passenger wants to control the music from the iphone, otherwise USB gives the driver full control over the selection as well.
