  • Towbar for 2018 Kakadu

Hi all, first time Prado owner as of 5 days ago, don't know why it took me so long! Love it!
Just after some advice on the difference between a Toyota genuine tow bar at a cost of between $1250 and $1500 installed compared with a Haymen Reece installed for $880.00. From what I can see the HR doesn't require the rear bar to be cut, but is there any other differences. I have read some non genuine towbar wiring may not be compatible with the rear sensors when reversing with the trailer attached??/ Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers.

The HR bar is much neater and meets all the required standards, mines been hammered for 6 years no problems. Can't see any reason to use the Toyo bar.

We have a feb built 2018 VX with HR bar fits better looks better and wiring etc all good totally combatable with the sensors , dealer recommended it over the genuine one and lots cheaper so far have done 10,000k half of that towing a 2.3 ton van tows van better than the 120 series D4D we had for 11 years but uses more fuel I feel .

Has anyone found a towbar for a 2018 that sits up behind the bumper cover. I note the HR and Toyota towbars hang under the bumper cover.

Wynnum Towbar in Brissy does just that SXTone. Not much help in Newcastle but if you’re up this way...they tell me it’s 2 hours to install and around $650.
