I also purchased an Icom 440N. Same price as the GME but having experience with GME in my boat (on my third GME AM radio but still on my first Icom VHF)I had no hesitation going the Icom. I mounted the radio under the pasenger seat with the input on the side of my centre console. If I had a little more time and alot more patience I think you could mount it next to the 12v outlet on the console. High quality item at the same price as the GME.

There are existing nutserts already available, just had to drill another hole or two in the Icom bracket to get the angles right but it went in without problem (although a tight squeeze) and is much better than drilling the car. It's also an easy location to run power and coax to as it is right behind the left hand grommet in the firewall.
Dont suppose you have a pic of it mounted by any chance?

i have since moved the hand piece, the double sided tape i used didn't hold so i got a clip on attachment from hold my phone, and it works a treat, where it was it was clear of the airbag

an interesting problem has arisn, and I wonder if anyone can suggest a solution.

I have installed an Oicom CB "UHF 280" into the prado. I have used the supplied antenna cable and its all wired up properly and works ok. However as soon as I turn iton, my garmin NUVI satnav says "No satellite coverage"...and doesn't update position or speed. As soon as I turn off the CB, the sat nav starts updating speed and position once again. The satnav is powered from the cigarette plug, and the UHF CB has its own power supply straight from the battery, with the supplied in line fuse.

I have tried relocating the satnav in virtually all positions (legal and illeal) around the windscreen and even on the side windows, but as soon as the CB is truned on, the satnav looses satellite signal.

I am certain that the CB is interfering with the satellite signal, and I am not sure if this is just an issue that affects the garmin Nuvi, or if its an issue with the Oricom UHF CB, or perhaps a fault in either which is allowing stray signal to affect the satellite signal....Its really disaapointing, as I like to have both the satnav and the CB operational at the same time. I have an AT870 uniden antenna on the nudge bar, but the satnav looses signal as soon as the UHF CB is turned on, and whether the CB is transmitting or receiving it doesn't seem to make any difference, it starts interfering straight away as soon as its turned on.

Any thoughts, comments or advice would be appreciated. ...(while I continue to search the internet and make some more calls to find an answer...so far to no avail)
