  • ARB Compressor Install - (in Engine Bay, Petrol)

Just finishes installing my compressor, yet to do wiring actually but thats the easy bit.

I chose to install it on the passenger side wheel well as there is plenty of room for it here and it is a relatively easy spot to install when getting the big black box contraption out of the way.

First I test fitted the compressor in by simply holding it in place and checking clearances all round then made some small marks so that I could then use the supplied base plate to mark up and drill some holes.

Only thing that was a little tricky and really needs to be done is on the two bolts that are closest to the firewall you need to put a few washer\spacers etc. between the baseplate and the wheel well when you finally tighten the nuts from the bottom.
This needs to be done because the space where I am installing the compressor slope down to the firewall and is also not flat so if you don't do this - When you come to tighten the bolts you will end up bending the panel work up towrds the compressor and cracking paint etc.
The tricky bit is putting washers over the two bolts and then trying to hold them on the bolts while trying to line up and put the bolts through the hole you drilled....

Anyway other than that pretty straight forward.... Enjoy..

Base Plate In Place and hole being drilled one at a time - each time dropping a bolt through the hole to ensure all the hole line up in the end.

Compressor ibolted in and also the view of the 4 bolts from insoide the wheel well

Can I suggest you fit some isolators rather than bolting direct to the vehicle. This will cut down the noise and vibration into the vehicle.

Thanks for the suggestion. Ended up going to Blackwoods and purchasing 4 of the M6 type. They're a pain to install but well worth it in my opinion; whilst the compressor is on I hardly notice it in the cabin.

        Hi,
Was wondering where you mounted the switch. I have just bought the same compressor and noticed the switch supplied will not fit the cut outs in the 150 Prado.
Also what did you pay for the rubber mounts from Blackwoods? I was quoted $17 ea.

I fitted the switch on the center console just below the cigarette lighter and ash tray (I can take a pic if you want). The reason for this is because there are 3 spare slots here on the 120 series and less likely to be switched accidentally - I intend to install lockers later on down the track and place these switches there as well.

I paid about $15 each for the mounts. I used stainless steel M6 nylock nuts and washers.
