  • Genuine Toyota Floor Mats

With the purchase of our new manual diesel GXL Prado, we added the genuine Toyota Floor mats.
They fit perfectly around the seats and are profiled to suit , yet because they are carpet on the underside they still move around due to getting in and out of the vehicle.
The front drivers side is fixed with two small clips, that don't really do the job quite well of stopping the mat from moving, when getting in on the drivers side the left foot goes down on the left side of the mat and once a little forward pressure is applied the left clip just releases out of the hole in interior carpet.

Does anyone have any experiences similiar to this and if so how have you recitified this carpet movement issue ??

Had my mats in since purchasing the Prado in March, and the driver's side has not moved at all. Were installed by the dealer.

Yowie, yes installed by the dealer, but it's those silly clips that can and do come loose from the bottom carpet.
Looking for something extra like applying velcro to the back of these ?

My clips are holding so far, and still appear to be firmly attached to the carpet, but cannot see how they are attached. Will have to keep an eye on them. Can you sow them back into the carpet with some strong fishing line, or maybe pull the carpet up and attach a small bracket under the carpet to hold the clips?

Had the 120 for 3 years and 103K and mats never moved.

The 150 is 1 month old, and I have had to put the mat back in place 3 times. It's the right clip that lets go on me.

              Re: Genuine Toyota Floor Mats

I dont have a 150 so cant check what the problem may be but check what the exact position of the clips on the carpet are. That is measure them and see if they are not off set rather than square to each other. One of the clips may be too far forward or back or side of where they actually need to be to work effectively. Just a guess and really can only be checked if you can check against one that has no problem and are very accurate in measuring. It just seems strange some are ok and others not when if they are all actually fitted exactly the same they should work the same. its not like they have a moving component that needs servicing or it breaks down. other than that if you can work out how to remove the clips, swap them over , left to right and vice versa. Be interesting to see if problem changes so it moves to other direction. is the gap in the end of the hooks different to each other after a close up look at them - its those little problems that become irritating - best of luck

exactly same issue would love a fix
dealer not really interested though i would have thought that with all Toyota's bad press they would jump on what could be a safety issue

                  Re: Genuine Toyota Floor Mats

Interesting... I've not had an issue with my floor mats moving. Maybe it's technique when getting in / out of the vehicle ? ;-)

Seriously though, I've had them out for cleaning, but they stay put when I put them back in.

I haven't experienced it because I made sure that the I bought this type of floor mats. This one is perfect fit. There are lots of available perfect fit floor mats there. Just test it first.

I have had the Toyota rubber mats since I got the new 150 12 months & no problem with them moving at all.

Only problem I do have is the drivers mat is nearly worn through.

Not good for only 12 months!

                      Now looking at Sandgrabbas.

My drivers side mat is heavily worn under the accelerator pedal after 6 months and the retaining holes have torn...pretty disappointing

Toyota replaced my rubber mats under warranty after 10.000km. The second set has a hole in the driver side mat before reaching 20.000km. My Gxl is a manual but carpet mats in other manual cars i had lasted much longer than these genuine rubber mats. Lets see what the dealer says at the next service.
